You know bandwidth is measured by many factors, one being where you are connecting to.  It matters how many hops there are, and the ability of that server on the other end to process your request quickly, and its bandwidth as well.  So yeah, to COX your bandwidth is probably really high because the server has a super fast uplink, and it not constantly getting hammered by other folks making requests.  On the other hand if you are trying to download a game from an overloaded server on a 128k connection, its gonna be slow no matter how fast your pipe is.

:D

Fubar sucks  :p

hmm fine print on this page

http://www.cox.com/HighSpeedInternet/features.asp

*Actual speeds vary and apply only to the Cox High Speed Internet service markets as indicated. Dowstream data speed may be affected by whether the data accessed is cached or non-cached; Internet-related factors, such as the location and configuration of each accessed server; internal network factors, including customer compliance with Cox High Speed Internet usage policies set forth in the subscriber agreement and acceptable usage policy; the level of overall traffic; and the customerīs computer configuration. Network management needs may require Cox to modify maximum upstream and/or downstream rates.

The ad says itself...  UP to 5mb per sec.. "UP TO" is the key words here. I too have service that says UP to 5mb per sec (which is 5mb Downstream/256k upstream).. but when downloading large files i get around 500k per sec on most files depending on what server im downloading from.

Jetb123

There are plenty of places on the internet to check your connection speed.

Just search in Google for "speed test"

Try here: http://bandwidthplace.com/speedtest
