DVI cable?

My monitor and my video both accept digital video and i was using a analog cabke, so i figured i would get the digital cable which cost 50 bucks just for the cable.  I was wondering what the benefits to this cable are?

now for my issue..
since installing the cable, my max refresh rate went from 85hz to 60hz and my frame rates dropped down a bit from 75-84 to the 50-60 range, is it the cable? i figured all digital was better. and with this cable what screen res should i run , etc.?
thanks guys

Sounds like when you switched to digital, it reset your refresh rate back down the the 60hz default.  Just reset your refresh to 75 or 85 (whatever it handles at the screen resolution you run at), and your fps should go back up.

I'm just guessing then, that you gain something in the quality of the image, but at the cost of your resolution and refresh rate.  (How about a DUH for me lol)  I would also check to see that there isnt a different driver to use for the monitor if you go digital?  Again, I've never used one, but if the driver required updating I could see why you might not have full functionality.  Just a thought.

Just an FYI... but I appreciate your posts. Very informative. I always read them and it helps me a lot.... you often cover a problem I end up having before I have it and then I already know what to do about it. Thanks.   :)
