Naval rounds were said to produce colored explosions when they hit so the gunners knew which rounds were theirs.

weve ytalked abouyt this before..

they used dyes...reds..blues..yellows.. pinks..greens..

the french got patton dirty with a dye hit near his ship before hitting th ebeaches of Africa

Unfortunately nothing came of that thread, even though he had an excellent idea for working colored rounds/aircraft spotters for more accurate fire. It worked like the ".wingman" command does now. If you wanted someone to spot rounds for you, you would use the ".spotter handle" command. For the player designated as your spotter, the shell impact would change color to be more visible from a distance. Quite a few people liked it, but HT decided not to implement it for one reason or another.

I remember seeing a painting of ship gunners trying to hit a Jap torpedo boat making a run on some invasion fleet. The multi-colored splashes made it look like something from a Jefferson Airplane video.
