They look like huge lime burns.

When I was working construction for a summer job and carrying mortar for the masons I started to notice small holes on the ends of my fingers.  After a few days I couldn't even turn a door handle.  The mortar here is made with cement, sand and lime.  Caustic lime.  Bad stuff.  Took about two weeks before my "office boy" hands hardened up enough to deal with it.
