Years from now, when you're sitting by your fireside with your grandson on your knee and he asks you, "What did you do in the great World War 2?" You won't have to say, " Well, I shoveled sh*t in Louisiana."

Well, done Private Beharry, VC

A snappy salute to you sir!

Well done indeed.

Yep a brave man.

( not agreeing with the war doesn't mean you can't recognise a hero! )

Wow! As the closing scene of The Bridges at Toko Ri put it, "Where do we find such men?"

My citation under the circumstances would proabably have included phrases like "After finding it was no longer safe to cower under the vehicle's tracks..." and "wet himself for the second time at this point..." and "burned out the reverse gear on that vehicle as well..."

Okay this is gonna get me killed in here but...

I read the citation and what I got from it was that, in both instances, his vehicle came under attack and he kept on truckin'.

Like he had a choice?

I believe it was because they were trying to get to a unit under attack, and he pressed through (kinda crazy if you ask me) even though his vehicle was all fluffied up. Then he lead the other vehicles out of the mess with his head out of the hatch cause he couldn't see, taking a bullet in the helmet too boot.

As long as it's not on par with the USA Medal of Honor, it's warrented I think.

Of course it's not on par with the MoH.  Why would the UK want to degrade the VC to be on par with the MoH.

True.

I wish I was born in 1920, and was a GI in England in 1942.  I would have pry not won any medals. Well, but for making a whole lota tan bottoms of  the English women feet that lived next to the beach.
