OK, a crazy idea I admit, but what do you think?
« on: April 30, 2005, 11:50:41 PM »
What if, and I mean a BIG WHAT IF, the CT had "proprietary" airplanes only availble for use in the CT for historical purposes?  Let's say that the Mitsubishi J2M3 "Jack" or some such plane was available for use exclusively in the CT.  Do you think that would bring the numbers back?

I think it could be a nice exclusivity to the CT that would give it a special identity that the MA could never match.  I know the development of aircraft is highly taxing to HT's resources but I think it would make the CT unique rather than having a sort-of "mini MA" image.

The CT may be starting to recover a little. AH II coming out may have had more to do with the decline of the CT than anything else. Most guys are just more interested in flying in the Main , period.
When we get CT converts , we just got to work on keeping them interested.  Best we can do is keep the setups as interesting as possible , and keep promoting the CT.  The only way your going to see a big increase in CT attendance is the MA going down.

If we really want numbers to increase  people are going to have to pay attention to some of the complaints MA guys make about CT. Things like limited icons , and others. If we keep ignoring complaints about CT, and refusing to consider making changes to intice more people....................  I just don't think we're ever going to get a big boost in numbers.

I have seen, in this current setup, a few from the MA come in and leave, for the simple reason that it is way too far to fly to get a fight. The bases are too far apart. period.

I like this map, but we need to add more bases and get some a little closer to each other if we are going to continue to use it.

For the most part though I have noticed a more level headedness, and indeed, a more polite and fair play environment in the CT as of late.  This in iteslf will garner more participation.

We did that and it made no difference. We asked in a poll several months ago and the overwhelming #1 reason MA folks didnt play at that time was "we hate the limited icons". So we changed it, posted it in the General forum, and nothing happened, nothing. Then people started saying they wanted the CT to be an alternative to the MA with different settings and such. What do they want? It cant be both at the same time.

I'm of the same mind as Oldman, I feel there is just a small portion of the AH population that is going to like the CT no matter what its set up like. The majority want to be in the "big" arena, they dont care which one it is as long as its where the most people are. That is 95% of the AH player base and there is nothing the settings can do about that.

Maybe you need to provide an alternative to the "Horde Capture/Win Reset" model of gameplay.

Turn off the base capture and make this the "Fightertown" idea that is continually brought up in the General Discussion. Use appropriate maps that don't require a long flight to the fight.

Yeah, the Bomber Boys and GV Aficionados will be downhearted but how many of them do you really get in here anyway?

I have no idea if it would work but it is something you could try for a coupel of weeks.

It's not like the place could really lose much participation.

To me, the big appeal of the CT is the historical match-up of plane types.

The next most appealing thing to me about the CT is that early war planes can be successfully flown and fought as designed.  After experiencing the MA, one would think that early war planes sucked, when in fact they ruled the skies in their time.  Personally, I prefer early war planes more than the later ones, I also find the beginning and middle of the war more interesting than the latter.  I also prefer more limited plane sets to broader sets.

The biggest bummer about the CT to me is base distance.  A few CT maps have a few bases that are closer than any MA maps; IMO the most AH fun occurs when there is a nonstop on-the-deck knife fight between two close bases.  I’ve been flying online sims way to long to enjoy one second of flying TO the fight; I want to be IN it non-stop.

IMO, nothing would help promote a better turnout in the CT than significantly closer bases.

Remove Gv's, use Bob map for a month and try to create the feel by using plane sets year by year between 1940 and 1944.....

Ok forgot to add since no one is in the place now adays ask HTC to open the MA to the H2H crowd. Would't cost them anything, would still be running the servers and it might get some people to pay for a full MA service.

I think he means open CT to HTH players. And yes, it would cost HTC a lot. Each person that took advantage of this would be that much less that HTC gets in revenue, and that much more bandwidth they have to pay for every month.

Not to mention there are a LOT of tards in HTH. Trust me. I know. I live there. You might not want them all in the CT (LOL)

Off the top of your head how much exactly would it cost? Difficult question I know but say 500 people used a free CT on a Regular basis for a month at a time thereafter they ante up?
