Viewing skins

Is there a way to view a skin without having to load it and then fly around looking at it from an external view?

Thanks

Go to the anouncements forum, where they announce the new AH patches and all that. In the same forum they announce the latest skin viewer. You have to have the skin viewer for the same version of AH (if you have AH 2.03 and have the skin viewer for 2.02 it won't work).

So with this viewer can you view the skins that are in the hanger outside of the sim? Or is this just a tool for creating a new skin?

What I'm trying to do is be able to view the paint schemes without being in the hanger.

When I click on a file in the skins folder the viewer says the file contains no viewable info. Aren't the files a .res file?

It can view other skins, but you have to save them to a folder first. Example, inside AH hangar right click on the plane after you pick a skin and save the skin. Then it makes a folder with BMPs in it (which the skin viewer can see).

Or open the viewer, find any plane, hit "Save" and then rename it to xxxxxx1 (where xxxxx is the default name). If you have more than one directory for a certain plane that have skins in them, you will get more options in the second combo box (right below the one where you pick the plane you want) in the skin viewer.

Krusty,
If I chose a skin and then right click, it only gives the option to
"save default skin"
What am I doing wrong?

That's the option. It's misleading. It works for whatever skin you have selected when you do it.
