My problem is I have about 8 AFter market 30 & 40 round mags...only 3 out of that 8 work decent..and its still not perfect.

The metal is thin and bends...Rounds pop out of the breach by them selves..no matter how i bend the ends of the mags..it doesnt hold rounds in perfectly

So..What I see now is..PMI and USA made mags..

DAmmit janet ..Im pissed im not seeing RUger factory Rounds..Pisses me of..So much so..I think I shoudl try to sell my mini-14 and by a Bushmaster ar-15...I really dont want to lose money on it tho..

BTW ...anyone from Virginia City ? VA

Tell you what Cloud I have a buddy that owns a supply shop that supplies the NYCPD. I know there swat team uses Mini-14s. I will ask him tonight what brand of mag they use in there Mini-14s and where is the best place to get them. He will know for sure. I will have an awnser for you sometime tomorrow afternoon.

yep... for some reason, the poor mini 14 was the "target" of all the snake oil mag makers.. mostly junk.   The stainless steel ones seem to be slightly better.

I would pay twice as much for a mag of factory quality.   And... yep, if you load a few less rounds than the capacity that seems to help.

Never put 30 rounds in an older "30 round" magazine.

As somone whos put well over 10,000 rounds through M-16/AR-15s it causes alot of headaches.  You probably know this allready or it doesnt apply to a mini14...if so disrgard...carryon.

Oh yeah i usually in an old bananna clip just load up like 25-27 rounds.

Sorry man I am a tard I forgot. They dont use factory mags cuz ruger doesnt make them. These are the ones used by NYPD ERT unit. This is even the place his shop gets them to sell to the NYPD.

http://www.galatiinternational.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=GIO&Product_Code=MAGR14223&Category_Code=Mini14magazines

They are really good mags. Basicly they are scaled down M-16 mags so they are built to the same MIL-SPEC standard. Since even buying mags for an AR-15 can be trying at times I would just buy three of these mags and see how they work. If atleast two out of the three work good then you found a good set of mags. This type of mags are hit or miss. Which is why Ruger proly doesnt put them out.

These are suppose to be really nice. My buddy says he uses these in his own Mini 14. He said he only gets a bad mag per 50 or so he has bought.

http://cdnninvestments.com/mi230manewbl.html
He told me to tell you stay away from the D&E mags and the Eagle brand mags.

The Mini14 " the world's most exspensive plinker "

That's a quote from Bill Ruger about his own creation that I read in a review on the Mini14 years ago. That, and the ocasional " I can piss straighter than this thing can shoot " story have put me off owning a Mini14, but lately I have been thinking about buying one while I can still afford it; the US state department has a on again/off again export ban on the Mini to NZ which screws with the price of the rifle here.

I have read that Ruger expect the Mini14 to shoot a maxamin group size of 2" at 50 yards which  translate to 4" at 100... imo thats piss poor for any .223 chambered rifle, but I might be able too live with it if I knew it was the absolute worst grouping I could expect from an out of the box Mini. It can't get any worse than 4" can it?

I use to have two of those plastic ramline magazines that lazs mentions. As well as fitting the Mini14 they fit the AR15 and AR180. I used them in my 180 cause decent  mags were hard to get for it, but they were unreliable, but it was a sod of a rifle anyway. It was an Armalite and even Armalite mags did not w work in it. My AR15 got the good stuff, GI issue " Adventure Line" 30 rounders; not a snowballs chance in hell of importing that kind of stuff from the US these days.

Why do you need 30,50,75 rnd mags? I use to own a Mini-14 for years but never felt the need for more rnds. Unless of course the deer started shooting back. Going bang, bang, bang down the range is kinda boring isn't it?

Gixer, the world is awash with ammunition. It's our civic duty to burn up as much of it as we can, as fast as we can.. and besides it's fun.

Did you ever put your Mini over a bench and check it's accuracy?

gixer... why do you need a bike with more than 70mph capability on the street... anything more will be breaking the law.   too much horspower is dangerous.  you may control it better than some or even most but eventually... it will cause you to crash and then everyone will pay for your selfishness.

excel... you can shoot worse groups than 4" at 100 yards with a mini 14   I just shot some 3" groups at 50 yards with mine testing different ammo.   They group about like an AK47 to me... about 50% better than an Aks.

You can buy barrels for them that will gurarentee sub 1" moa for around $400 tho.   I would be very comfortable with 2" groups at 50 yards tho with the crappy open sights.  I don't do much better with open sights on any rifle.

I also don't do much worse with handguns.  I am not a very good rifle shot.

Don't buy a Mini14 for accuracy.  You will be disappointed unless you double the money you spend to accurize it.  The problem lies in the light, thin walled barrell.  Vibrations from the discharge cause the bullet to exit the barrel at slightly different Trajectories.  That is why the heavy barrels and/or the "Harmonic Stabilizing" barrels help accuracy on this rifle.
