Spent 4 years patroling the Bering in the Coast Guard. Have they shown any Coasties trying to board crabbers from a 26ft motorsurfboat in 30ft swells? That's an interesting experience.

We called it "The Aleutian Chain Gang".

Well after the end of the king crab season episode I think one thing will be pretty clear.  I don`t believe Cpt. Anderson of the Western Viking will be seeing the return of any of this crew for another season. :D
Sig Hansen, of the Northwestern seems to have his act together and seems to be the man to crew for.
Next week will start the episode of another variety of crab season. Can`t wait. Best thing on the tube in a while IMHO.

Im not sure if it was a new episode for last night. They replay them a dozen times. But I noticed last night one of the old timers on one of the boats was talking about the seasons and how short they've become. This year its only 3 days. Ten years ago it was a three month season.

Can you imagine doing that for three months? After three hours I'd be sucking my thumb and crying for my mommy.

i liked the lucky lady, and felt bad for the kid with the bad luck (falling into the hole in deck and stuff)

they were the smallest boat and only a crew of 3...

total $ / lb of crab not as impressive, but at the end of the season, they did $8000 / full share deckhand

thats as good as some of the big boats.

ditto on someone saying that northwest boat, forgot the name. crew isn't comming back captian is a weiner head
I don't know what to put here yet.

Good Show.  Their ratings must be good, there were a ton of commercials in last night's show.  I swear there was one spot with only 3 minutes of show between commercials.  Sheesh.

The days of making $30,000 are over.  The crab stocks are depleted due to overfishing.  Thats why the crab season has gone from three months to 72 hours.

Yea, the little boat did pretty good. Not much overhead there so I would imagine crew and owner came out pretty well.

The Northwestern is the boat that came out on top and is captained by Sig Hansen. A dang good captain and seems to really know the business and his boat.
Western Viking is the one I believe you are thinking about that I referred to.  Captained by Coleman Anderson, who is teh suck. :)
I was reading where the owners of this boat also said they had the boat gone over and put in top shape. LOL Everything but the bow broke.
:rofl

Isn't that the same boat that had the kid go overboard last season? Still had his hands on the pod they were recovering when it swung outwards and snatched him over the rail.

I don't care how much money they make, I can safely say that is not the job for me.
