Thinking about making the 190 mile drive to this air show this weekend. Has anyone been to it before. If so, how is it?

I live about two miles from the airport, loving every minute of it. This will be the first time since 9/11 that we've had the airshow back. Last one I went to was great. Bunch of old warbirds, including 3 B-17's, and plenty of demo flying. Sean Tucker was there showing his stuff. I plan on spending the whole day saturday out there.

I can't say for certain that there's a static show, but I would assume so. If you want I can let you know on Friday what it's looking like. I plan on sitting over there watching planes come in.

It's in Smyrna, about 15 miles southeast of Nashville.

Just got off the phone with the folks putting the airshow on. There WILL be a static display, but it looks like it's going to be mostly newer aircraft.

Went to the first one back in '91. Right after Desert Storm. It was a great show. Wish I could go back there this weekend.

They have all the roads by the airport closed off so wasn't able to get to the airport today. I can say without a doubt that the person that said there will be no WWII era aircraft was dead wrong. Just saw a heritage flight with F-15, F-86 and a P-51 fly over.

Guys, we need to get together. I'll be going Sunday, as I'm working till noon Saturday (price of owning your own business). Who is going Sunday? I'll be wearing a black Stetson, black Levi's,
and either a black Grlacier Girl t-shirt or a grey Putt Putt Maru t-shirt. I'm only about 8 miles from the airport (community called Walter Hill, just outside of Murfreesboro), and I know the good places to eat too.

The Tennessee Aviation days has historically been a good show, with static and flying displays, including World War II birds.

The P-51 Sweetie Face and the P-47 Hun Hunter XIV usually fly out of John C Tune airport. There's a Corsair that was at one time based over in Lebanon. Sweetie Face is almost always at Tennessee Aviation Days. There are a few birds based close by, and some not too far, just up the road in Sevierville (home of Dolly Parton) and Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge. And Glacier Girl is just an hour or so away from there in Middlesboro.

The last Tennessee Aviation Days event hosted 3 B-17's, Sweetie Face, the HE-111 that was lost a year or so ago, and a couple of others. Colonel Robert Morgan was the guest of honor.

It used to be held in the Fall, and the events of 11 September 2001 cancelled the last one scheduled. This is the first event since.

The Smyrna Municipal Airport, formerly known as Stewart Air Force base. My father was stationed there when he came home from Korea, he met my mother then. It's also now the Grubb's Kyle National Guard and Reserve Training center.

It is located off exit 66 from I-24, ABOUT halfway between Nashville and Murfreesboro. Near dead center of Tennessee.

If I go, it will be Sunday. Its a 3 hour drive for me (190 miles each way).

Its about an hour away from me (Ft. Campbell). We should all meet there and get to know one another and then go home and log to shot each other down. ha ha.
