Where will you go?
« on: March 03, 2001, 03:59:00 PM »
With the Open Beta release of "Vaporbirds III" around the corner (or so they say) and with WWII Online soon...where will y'all go?

Do you stay with HTC cause of the advancments and good customer support with stable connex?

Do you hop over to Brand-WIII with grapics that won't run well on a crappy machine (anything less that 750MHz)

Do you wander to WWII Online with it's 1000 player ultra-arena listening to a 6 year old whose got more rank than you?

Where will you go?

I'm interested in seeing WB III. I'd be lying to say I'm not. The graphics on some of the planes is fantastic. I'm pretty sure it'll be the same in regard to gameplay, MG will still be there and the customer service rep of iEN and crew will be the same - painful. I don't see see no real pluses that would effect a change on my part.

Here? I like feeling like I'm treated with respect, frequent news reports that aren't a cut and paste wack up, constant updates to the game, extremely fast reactions to bugs and an infinitely better customer relations from all 6 of the HTC folks than I've ever seen from iEN or Kesmai.

Like someone else said, "It's the same gal! Only new make up."

And WWII Online (or event Target Korea) I can swing in addition to AH. Only if I found the gameplay so riveting that I rarely flew here would I consider cancelling AH. But from reading the boards there lately, my expectations have dropped - considerably. And if I can't enjoy myself on the community boards then half the fun is gone for me. To be truthfull, at times the boards here make me just as fed up as well.

if AH would embrace the new faster systems with updated damage modeling insted of languishing just so that 500 celeron folks cann play i dont see how ANY of the others can contend.. AH needs some more graphical options, it only has 2, and thats REALLY holding back the potental for the REAL eyecandy that the others boast about.

Good questions Texace.  I'll definitely be having a look at WBIII when it comes out, but my preferences definitely lie towards the 'WW2OL/Target Korea' type simulations.

I've been flying MMOG flight sims for over 10 years now, starting with AW Dos.

10 years, and we still have the same old, same old, arena-style play.  10 years and we still have the same discussions about icons.  10 years and we still cannot get the pilot adequately modelled WRT fatigue, G-endurance etc.

WB and Aces High are really just AW-Dos with prettier dresses

And you know how it goes .... you can put a nice dress on a dog, but it's still a dog

I don't know.  Actually, I'll probably take the plunge to being a 30-bucks-a-month guy here pretty quick in AH.

After that, I definitely won't have the money to branch out.  And actually, I only have time for one sim really.

I'm impressed by AH's online smoothness.  I'll give up a little eye candy for good FR's and smooth online play any day of the week.  And since a lot of folks out there who are good flyers don't have 1+ Ghz machines yet, I think that's not that bad of a deal.

I also like the attitude of almost everyone I've met so far in AH.  Seems like a good community.

I know WarBirds has some good folks too, but I like the ongoing innovations provided by the HiTech team, and think they're definitely going in the direction I want to go with an online pay-per-month sim.

Just me two cents.

If it works better and is competatively priced and allows a more historical online matchups....where ever.

I believe I will be here for awhile.

The WWII Online concept of starting near the beginning of the war appeals to me but I really think they have bitten off more than they can handle.

WBIII, if it ever happens and based on the problems many have with the service hardly seems worth the switch.

The only thing on the horizon that will surely drag me off AH is IL2 and then only if the advertised online options work well and we all know how well boxed sims play online.

I anticipate having both a WWIIonline and Aces High account.

As a subscriber since tour 2 and a "500 Celeron folk" I say kiss my bellybutton wobble!!  There are just as many of us "slow" users as there are "mini crays" and thankfully HTC knows this.
As a matter of fact they themselves use slow machines.  I agree that this game can go much farther, but I don't think that it should be at the expense of my subscription.

P2 300 here and AH runs quite smooth.. 21fps all the time except when smoke or insane fleet tracer fire around.

Well kiss my bellybutton too skernsk,  i dont want the minimum requirements moved up, i just want there to be OPTIONS so that the faster machines can have all the really cool stuff they can handle and the "slow" users can still have fun.  Notice how EVERY SINGLE other game out there has tons of options such as LEVEL OF DETAIL, SMOKE DENSITY...and so on and so on.  I dont want to raise the min-req, i just want more graphical bliss for those who can handle it.  I.E. how about some damage modeling on the ships, i for one think its silly to have ABSOLUTLY NO damage visable on ships, they are either perfect or they are sinking, same thing with structures, there is no such as a "damaged" building or ship in this game.  why not make it so that a person can turn on options like
"SHOW BUILDING DAMAGE"
"SMOKE DENSITY LEVEL"
"SHOW SHIP DAMAGE"
"SHOW DEBIRS"
......etc

if you have a fast machine you can crank up the options, if you are on a slower machine you can tune it down (to the way it is now)

Having ONLY 2 settings for EVERYBODY to configure their machines to is REALLY holding the potental of this game back IMO.

I can afford them all, but I do not have time for all.  I will play the ones which are fun.  Frequent historical scenarios, realistic flight models, and a competitive jug will endear any new sim to me.

Right now AH has 2 out of 3, and that's more than anybody else has got.  WB has 1 of 3, but the scenarios keep me hanging on, along with the promise of WB3.  Everything else is vaporware.  Of all the vapor stuff, targetware I think has most potential.
