Ruby Ridge: FBI agent may go on trial for manslaughter
« on: June 07, 2001, 12:26:00 PM »
I read about it in the local paper yesterday.  Seems a decision was made in regards to wether the State of Idaho can bring the sniper that shot a woman standing behind a door up on manslaughter charges.

Basically, the ruling was that good intentions and zeal are not excuses for that type of accident.  There needs to be some accountability.

He "vass own-lee following ze orders".

If they bring him up on charges his Superior Officers... all the way to the top in DC...should be standing trial as well.

That operation was once again an example of the Federal monkey screwing the football. To dump it all on the lowest-ranking guy is a joke. Scapegoat is a good term, I think.

There were easier ways to get Randy Weaver into the slammer if that was the goal. Just like there were ways to get that loonie Koresh into jail in Waco.

Totally an opinion on my part.

If the "sniper" had a "green light" (in other words option) then he should be held accountable for "his" decision, good or bad!
If however he was "on a leash" (needed a fire/no fire order) then the person at the top of the chain should be the one going to trial for accountability.
Any way it goes some poor slob gets his life ruined even, if found innocent.  :(

Mr. Bill,

Not to go into thrashing a dead horse...

I believe the Department of Justice itself has admitted that the ROE given to the team were unconstitutional.

Tough to hang it all on the shooter if that is the case, IMO.

Mr. Phree (sp?) should be on trial too, along w/ ms. Reno and ever other agent that was there.  Unconstitutional ROE and nobody has been held accountable for going on 10 years.

Our government needs to be reigned in...

ROE aside...

Someone specifically trained to hit a target...

do you hold him accountable for his actions if he misses?

Not really forming an oppinion either way since I didn't see the exact incident.  But I do believe a jury should get exposure to it.  If a sniper misses his target, or targets the wrong individual hitting someone other than the intended target... what then?  I don't think "oops" should be enough.  It definately needs to be looked at by people outside of the "cover our ass" command.

That agent was smoking a cig when he pulled the trigger.  Big tobacco should be on trial too!!!  The FBI prolly drove an SUV!!  They left all the LEAD in the enviroment!!  Oh, the Humanities!!!

Now, does anyone see a problem of bombing innocent people in a foreign nation so your personal exploits aren't front page news??
