panel lines mostly done
« on: May 08, 2005, 10:11:42 AM »

all lines straight form my book, closest as i can get them.

starting on rivets.

followed the instructions here:

http://www.squadronspotlight.netfirms.com/riveting.html

they look like s***. ; ( can't get it to work right, even though all settings are exactly like they say. looks like i'll end up doping pixel by pixel ; (  GRRRR

still not sure what i am going to do with the canopy, because of the stretching. i might leave the lines off, they seem like they will not be seen with the camo anyway. we'll see how it goes.

anyone want the template (psp file layered) i can email it to them
I don't know what to put here yet.

I might ask for it.. but I'm not going to skin any doras... So few good skins to make, and they're all vouched for or done. So I'll leave the doras up to y'all.

I made this real fast jb73

First off you should always use a million colors then when your done go to 256.

For sideways panel i use the pen tool here is a picture
I marked it with blue what you should check or uncheck.

To make rivets you click on the line style and customize them and have your own style. I use about 7 space and i make oppacity low. here is a picture.

Hope this helped out.

JB, after a quick test with the riveting, this is as close as I can get to looking decent.  Note that on my website you used as reference, the skins are done in 2048x2048 resolution, so things will look different by the time you get it down to 1024x1024.  Sorry for that confusion.

I just did a little panel on the underside.  They don't look as neat as Waffle's, but this is as close as I can get it to looking right.

If you want to screw around with it some, I can post a picture of what the settings are in PSP to get that.

*Note - Check my sig for a few more things you may want to look around at. They're not great, but its a start.   Kev367th is also adding material to the site, but I haven't added some of it yet. (Sorry Kev...)

Working at higher resolution is not always the best.

Ideally, if a skin is done at 1024x1024, then the best way to skin it is at 1024x1024 and none other.

The largest problem when doing a skin at higher resolutions than it is supposed to be, is that when it is reduced in size, no matter how good the graphics program is, you will experience a sharp drop in quality.

This is especially problematic when, for example, you try to make emblems, markings, or numbers in higher resolution/larger size than it is supposed be. A Hakenkreuz(the german cross) done twice the size as it is supposed to be might look great, but if you reduce it in size to match the actual size that would be applied to the wings, then you will get ugly anti-aliased borders - fuzzy and unclear.

My recommendation is, if you are creating markings, emblems, panel lines, dots, rivets and anything that needs a very clear depiction, do it in the original size/resolution.

Kweassa, I have discovered this (the hard way unfortunately) and no longer work at 2048x2048.  At the time I wrote up that rivets page though, I did use the higher resolution.

Material.txt defines whether the skin is BMF or not (like for B17s and B24s). You don't need it for 190s

curious what you experienced skinners think of the rivets i did.

i took a few liberties with the wings and made less lines of rivets than most do. partly because i have yet to see a pic of a 190 where any rivets were showing on the top of the wing. and second i can not find a solid resource where the actual rivet lines were.

i plan no having a few more lines on the bott of the wings, because i have an actual reference photo sort of.

man i wanna go home "sick" from work and work more on the skin LMFAO
