i don't know jack about tires.  but, i'll soon be buying new shoes for a 2000 Xterra 4x4.  OEM tires were BFGoodrich tires sized at P265/70R15 (15-inch rims).
OEM Tires

i was at Costco yesterday (couldn't find any salesmen to answer this question) and found another BFGoodrich tire that has more tread for off-road driving.
the size is: 31x10.50R15
tire: Other Tires

any idea if a 31x10.50R15 tire fits the same as a P265/70R15?  They looked to be about the same size & width.

you really need to check the width.  The tires themselves should fit as long as you have 15 X 10.5" rims.

I'm not a tire expert but I have been looking at getting new 31s for my jeep.  I have the stock rims on there right now wich are 15 X 7"  I want to switch to the 15 X 10.5 for a wider tire.

good luck in finding the right tire set, Gunslinger.  sounds like maybe you need a new set of wheels???  gets expensive.  :eek:

I highly recommend Kelly Springfield. You can buy the generic version "Futura" at Pep Boys. They are built by K/S and a good deal. I put 80,000 miles on a set on my Explorer without a flat.

rpm, I've had Kelly tires before...liked them a lot, but the cost is a little high for me right now.  I'm not sure I'd like to go with a generic either.

The Futura Dakota's are the same as Kelly Safari's for 1/2 the money. Pick a tire you are happy with, but I was very pleased with them.

I got  QUESTION - I have an Acura TSX with stock tires - little less then 1 year old and 21K on the ODO. When shoud I start thinking about getting a change out?

Having an Xterra at home 31x10.50 will be a fine tire to fit. It's the same width as the OEM tire that came on your Xterra. We put mastercraft's on the xterra and these do just fine in the winter. I have BFGoodrich All-Terrains on my Ranger (33x12.50 on 15x10). I haven't been stuck yet but i do sometimes wish i would have gone with MTs. ATs i got because they wear better.

Ah, great to hear something from another Xterra owner.  I hope the two sizes DO match.  :)

unless you're especially hard on your tires, you should be able to get 40,000 to 60,000 miles on an original set.  But, look at your treads...if they look low to you, time to start shopping around for new shoes.

Just as a piece of triva,

...and for those who are really into tires...  a 265/70/R15 tire has a width of 265mm (10.43 in) and a height 70% of its width which is 185.5mm (7.3 in).  That gives and outside diameter of the tire on a 15 inch rim to be 29.6 inches.  The 31x10.5R15 tire diameter is 31 inches (~30.6 depending on tire) and has a width of 10.5 inches (+/-).  That translates into a 3% increase distance traveled per rotation with the truck tire and a corresponding  3% increase above indicated speed (or error).  Also, the odometer will show 3% less than the actual miles traveled.

Yes, the 31x10.5R15 will fit, but you'll have to trim some plastic. More info at the Xterra Owners Club.

FWIW, I have Desert Dueler Revo on my 2000 Xterra. They far exceed the stock BFG Long Trails, but if you're looking for a more agressive tread, you can't go wrong with BFG A/T KO.
