RC M26 Update, (big pics)
« on: May 09, 2005, 12:40:11 AM »
Ok so I am about 90% done now.

I will caption as I go.

Underside of upper hull, showing turret traverse motor and rollers.

Also shows the mesh screens that fit under the scale grates on the rear deck.

Upper hull trst fit, notice the little head lights hanging out. also notice the mass of wires in the turret hole. These become a problem later.

Headlights in their mounts, and on, cool stuff.

Turret in together, I had more pics of the turret going together but the damn cam is sensitive, and blurs if I get to close, and if I use the close up mode and get to far away it gets blurred :(

Closer view of turret.

Turret in place, much of the scale bits on, post paint touch up.

Another pic of it.
Now I have been fidling with the damn wires for hours lol, what you cant see is the mass of wires inside, they hang up on each other can cause the turret to not want to rotate to the left very well. I think I even managed to damage the geared turret ring, so I am going to order a new one from Timaya.

From what I have read the Pershing is their smallest RC tank for interior volume, all the others can hold 2 batteries inside. They all also do not have the wiring issues this one does. My advise after getting to this point is, be DAMN carefull before you stick the RC bits inside the tank down and find the best places to hide the wires to you have as much space as you can get.

Still, this has been so fun, I think I am going to buy another. Either a tiger one, or the Lepord 2 A5.

Few more comments. Sorry the pics are big I dont have an image editor on this system.

Notice the small flea sized screws? 22 of the damn things hold those tiny silver brackets on so you can screw on the fenders.

Decals in place, I will start the weathering and add some damage next weekend. I think I want to make the fronts of the fenders out of brass.

Not a perfect job but not bad considering it has been 6 or 7 years since I built a model.

Yeah Nuke, they are great.

They never fail to put out a damn good product, hell I am rusty but this tank was easy to do for the most part. A few frustrating parts were 3 hands would be nice but I suspect thats how it is with these types of things.

Really great fun, if you can swallow the cost I highly recomend it.

The lab is a bit unsure about it though lol.

No factory soft air gun, those are from tokyo marui I think and much smaller.

The turret space is a bit small buy you might be able to adapt the stuff from one of the smaller tanks to this.

The gun does flash and make a firing noise, and the gun recoils. Makes the dog nervous heheh

Saw one of those in a hobby store by me. Would like ot buy one just to hunt our cats.

Figgure it would do nicely to acheive that thing that cats sometimes do when startled when they jump about 3 feet sraight up and each leg looks like its trying to run in a different direction:D

Looks great!

Gotta wonder how many allied lives would have been saved if the Pershing had been approved earlier instead of the Sherman.  Some pretty damning allegations in 'Death Traps', a great read written by a tank wrecker (eg, salvager/repair guy during the charge) from WWII.

RC M26 is now fully operational!!

Ok the tail light wires pulled out of the tiny led, but I can worry about the later.

What I am talking about it turret rotation, I could not get the turret to rotate to the left very well, it would get right over the left hatch and grind. I thought I had damaged the turret ring, but that was not the case.

If you look at the second pic you can see some thick red, black, white blue and orange wires, these are the motor power wires coming out of the controll unit.

I had the controll unit mounted to far back so these wires had to stick up and out, that were hitting the turret ring just a bit and lifting the turret, causing the gear to only engage the edge of the teeth on the ring.

I fixed it by prying up the unit(damn strong double sided tape came with the kit for keeping it in place) and moving it foreward enough I can get the wires down between it and the speaker.

Now the turret rotates fine.

Now I just have one last thing to figure out.....

Why the tank recoils foreward when the main gun is fired.

More pics to follow when I start weathering.

Sounds like the inertial compensators are tuned a little too tightly.  Common problem in early model Bolos.  You get your 20mm Hellfire cannon firing sub-orbital rounds with that setup, pretty soon you're being dragged into some godforsaken ocean because your 'precision recoil elimination system' (built by the lowest bidder on some moon) is tweaking out.

That, my friend, is another fine reason to buy Terran.  None of this off-world crap.  Like they say down at the shop, "If it ain't homeworld built, I'll probably get kilt."

Some picks of the start of the weathering.

Did I go overboard with the rust?
