« on: May 12, 2005, 07:51:14 AM »
And what do they mean? I think I know what a couple of them mean but why the funny spellings? (Not a troll)

pwnd = owned?
L33T = ?
haxxor = Hacker?
suxxor = uh..sucker?

Any others?

Pwnd / PWN3D / owned = i own you, i got the best of you, i whooped your butt soo bad you are now my servant.

old internet thing hackers said.

L33t / 1337 / elite = i am the best in the world at given task

haxxor / hax0r / hacker = hacked. hax0r was a flag to enable cheat codes on some old games, deus ex i am sure of, but i was told it goes back further.

suxxor / sux0r / suxxor = sucks. as in that is the suckiest thing ever it "sux0r"

teh / the = the. dyslecix way of typing, as in ym case i do it all the time by accident. people intentionally put it in to sound like a script kiddie, or general moron.

script kiddie, 12-14 year old kid on AOL who thinks he's cool, visits warez sites, and tries to "hack" other AOL pc's and send malicious "scripts" through messenger programs to cause harm to the recievers PC.

the whole letten number subistitution thing started a long time ago, when real hackers tried to mask what they were saying to confuse anyone who might be spying.

all of it has morphed into what it is today, basically an intardent sub language.
I don't know what to put here yet.

I think they came from 10-12 year old kids in AOL chat rooms talking about their favorite shows "Barney and Pokemon"

pwned originates from a typo some quaketard made. Note that p is next to o on your keyboard.

1337, origionally 31337, as well as hax0r and it's derivitives, are "script kiddie" lingo from IRC.

TeH is a more recent trend. When script kiddie speak became (somewhat) popular many people made fun of it. Despite the ridicule it continued to thrive, incorporating the joking nature. Eventually the intent changed from sounding cool with neat looking text to sounding as stupid as possible, which TeH accomplishes.

Actually Ive read that 733t speak originated from hacker communications to mask relevent keywords to keep from raising red flags to anyone trying to search them out.

Then it migrated to online FPS.
