Is this true about the A20?
« on: May 14, 2005, 11:15:10 AM »
" The most widely used Havoc variant was the A-20G. The A-20G was armed with six .50 caliber Browning machine guns in the nose, two more in the powered dorsal turret, and a handheld .30 or .50 caliber machine gun in the ventral position.

Depending on her fuel load, the A-20 could carry up to 4000 pounds of bombs in the bomb bay, along with four more 500 pounders on wing hardpoints. A top speed of 342 mph made the A-20G a fast, hard-hitting attack aircraft. "

Notice this part?
"a handheld .30 or .50 caliber machine gun in the ventral position."

Was it just not added like the radio operators gun in the b17g?

For those that don't want to link: HTC had no accurate photos of the area, couldn't model it. So they left it out. Same reason we don't have periscope on the Ar234. They couldn't decide how to do it so they left it out. Game designer's decision.

The reason there is no 'periscope view' on the 234 isn't due to lack of pictures and is in no way similar to the ventral gun on the A-20.

I have about 10 pictures of the periscope I found on the web. I know many more in other books.

The reason there is no periscope on the 234 is the difficulty it would require in getting it to work correctly. This is the same reason we might never see a Tu-2 or 410. It isn't a graphic problem per se but a problem of proper function.

Besides in AH they don't use 'accurate cockpits' and while in the 'periscope view' it would look about the same as a tanks main gun view.

The periscope in the 234 served several functions, including a bomb site for shallow angle attacks. I had posted many times on the forum how it works and even some pictures.

So the 2 are completely different.

"Game designer's decision."

That's why we don't have ventral gun on a20. And why we don't have periscope. That's what I meant :)

Your right, for a reasonable perk price I'd fly that and love it.

A lot of operation A-20G's had the ventral gun removed.  The A-20G in AH is in an accurate operational configuration.

Why would a four cannon A-20G be perked?
