Yes or no?
« on: May 14, 2005, 02:31:41 PM »
Someone just called me and asked if I wanted to take a bet.

What we are betting for is not important, but I have to give him an aswer within the hour.

I have never touched a guitarr in my life (other than the occational drunken fondle).

I have until may 31st. to learn the riff from AC/DC's thunderstruck and perform it on that date without looking like I have never done this before.

Can it be done?

Guitarr people chime in!

It's not impossible, but it would be very, very difficult.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.

I've been playing guitar for about 8 months, at  least 2 hours every day, and I still can't do it.  I focus mainly on AC/DC songs and Thunderstruck is about the only song I can't physically play.

Do you just have to play the opening lick, or the whole song?  If just the opening lick you can do it but it will be really hard.  Here's how....

Get a guitar (duh) and only work on playing the second thinnest string.  The whole lick is played right there.  Pick it once going down, then pick it again coming back up.  Start off really slow and gradually pick up speed.  You'll need to spend a couple of hours a day doing this.  Don't even start trying to fret the notes now, just pick the string.  If you find yourself making a lot of mistakes, slow it back down until you can do it perfect.  Gradually pick up speed until you can pick up and down in tempo with the record.  From there start to learn where to fret the notes using the tab that was linked.  Again, slow it way down until you can do it with no mistakes.  Gradually pick it up and you're good to go.  It'll be difficult, but not impossible.

BTW, post pics of your punishment when you lose.  :)

Your a geek..., so fake it.  Get your computer to send the riff to your amplifier then air guitar close to the strings, dance a lot ala your favorite mad gutarist.

It worked for Milli Vanilli and little sister Simpson... for a while.
