squad leader sucked though. The LOS algorithms used were pure bs, graphics bad and overall bad overview.

XCOM I and II got it right, nothing else has come close since  .

<still playes Terror From The Deep>

Lol Santa, I still play UFO: Enemy Unknown   TFTD is just plain too ugly for me, and the storyline's no fun

Besides, underwater grenades? :P

Yah duma, Enemy Unknown RULES. But UFO II has some features that were missing in UFO I, like the ability to scroll in yer weapons inventory.

I gotta find it - have it zipped on three disks somewhere. Hm...  .

Actually UFO 1 was one of the first PC games I played. I had the UK PC Zone preview release demo of it a few months before it was to be released - unfinished code and with some strange effects. What made that so immersive was that there was no introductory manual to the game - you honestly had no idea what you were facing   Had half of my troops shot in the darkness by an enemy I couldn't see before finally stumbling on one of the sectoids, took him out in crossfire   When my last troops stumbled across the UFO I had no idea how to get in at first.. ah, great immersive game and has lasted very well through the years

And Chrysallids, agh! I sure as hell make sure to conserve time units every round and take up covering positions whenever those guys are around

Agh Chryssalids! Those zombie making BATARDS!

We NEED a game like xcom again. Seriously, it has lasted a LONG time and is STILL the best in the genre, all these years later.

Me, I don't make us of flying suits or those guided rocket thingies, finding um boring. That game ROCKS  .

Yum, multiplayer, I'd be the aliens. Cool. That'd rule.  .

I always find it most fun to take small 4-man teams and just build them up to amazing levels. Had one guy with other 70 bug kills, not counting grenades   Attrition rate gets kind of high during the later levels, since I only use earth-tech weapons... I wanted to try and make a real-life weapons conversion a while ago, will have to do that sometime

Check out http://www.edf-project.org/main.php  for a fan-created game in progress based on X-COM and http://maximumdreamland.com/  for info on a new X-COM-setting game from the makers of UFO

I was pretty young when i played UFO for the first time (had an 386 25 MHZ wich was impressive then)so the thing that made it really immersive was that you could change the names of the team members, hehe that was advanced

I still remember buying X-com (it wasn't called UFO in the states) and me and my roommate fighting over the CD every night until we found out how to make it play without one  .

I have played Squad Leader, not the computer game though. I've also played the demo of Sudden Strike, and I've never seen a game portraying itself (erroneously) as "realistic" that blew such incredible chunks. It's Command & Conquer with Panthers, I couldn't believe it. Is this just the demo or is the full game pretty much the same crap?
