Ahhh...then it was before "The Great Swap"

Wouldn't have been any female I knew then (though I think I may have seen that monster during those couple of days we tied up along side each other). First person I worked for after boot camp was a female BM2...Cynthia Warren. Better than most the men on that ship and stronger than half. One of the most knowledgable BMs I ever had the pleasure of working with. And in a wet suit....oo la la...we called her the last of the Amazonian Wonders. Ahhh....my youth.
I was on the Mellon in 78-79 in Honolulu. We took her up to Kodiak in '80 to swap out with the Munro. We took a ship that had been in port for 6 months being painted and prettied up and traded it for one that had been at sea for 3 months...and which we were taking out on our 3 month Alpat from there

When we got her home to Hawaii she was in rough shape. Probably looked a lot like that BM1 you're talking about!
