It won't boot at 166 FSB,,and that's the main issue,if this "tech" has underclocked the CPU so that it will boot,either it's faulty or not supported by the MOBO properly,,should never have left the shop in that condition.

your gonna have to pull the hs and look 1st at the numbers to be shure its the 2600+

wcpuid wont tell you what it is ... just what the clocking is then use whats apropreate .. AE

a 2500+ barton set at
10x200 = 2.0 ghz will show as a 2400+
at 11x 200 = 2.2 ghz it shows as a 3200+

my 2500+ mbarton on water w/ ice oced to this

see it doesnt show what the cpu is anymore... (Whistles quietly as i rma'ed the ram afterwards  )

my boot screen says the same thing when starting .. it had that unknown cpu  when booting at those ultra high clocking.

So id investigate befor calling foul .. but i would ask for a mainboard thats equal to what was removed though.

(If ya need any more wcpuid pics of different clocking just yell and ill clock mine up and down to show ya more )

I have an XP 2500 chip and if the FSB jumpers on the MB arent set right, it shows up at 1100 mhz on startup and under system properties. When I got inside and changed the jumpers to the correct setting, it now shows up as a XP 2500 chip.  My bet is the MB jumpers got screwed around by a retarded techie at that computer shop.

Maybe he is still tangeled up in his usb cables. We should send sensei Skuzzy over with some lessons in the martial art of cablewarfare.

There are no jumper settings on an Abit board. It is all software based in the CMOS before windows bootup..

I don't have much experience w/ Abit and AMD (have lots w/ Abit and intel) but I would first reset all the MB settings to default incase your tech guy has done something wrong and allow the MB to recognize the chip again..  From there is its rather easy to manipulate the FSB from the CMOS settings as well as core votage, memory timings, etc...

I have used abit boards for a good 6-7 years now and never lost a single one..
