AH Skin Dept
« on: May 23, 2005, 02:23:29 AM »
http://www.ah-skins.com/index.php

Got this site from one of the threads here.
Are these the same skins that we have in the sim?
and if so does this site get updated?
Reason I ask is that while browsing it I was looking for a skin by RogerD that I use on my Spit V and it wasent listed.

Also they have a "request a skin" thing on this site.....
If you use a skin that hasent been made availiable through the sim what do other players see? Do they see the default skin?

In Nascar racing 2003 season if someone didnt have your carfile (same as a skin here) uploaded to thier cars directory they saw a geniric looking paintjob.
Was wondering if the same was true for AH.

Thanks

some of my skins i have uploaded to skin department  but most i havent    most i havent finished  lol.
you can only use  the skins approved  by ah  in the main arenas, the skins in the skin department you can download and use off line  or i believe in h2h if everyone has that skin.
some of the skins in skin department are not  i think releised  into the main aerna, then again i could be talking crap.

So what would happen if you used a skin that wasent yet approved for the arenas?

You would see the skin on your computer but what would everyone else see?

RogerDee  do you plan to make a 308th FS skin for the Spit IX?
Similiar to the one you did for the V.

I love that skin and hope it becomes availiable for the IX

The list of the skins in the section "online skins" is outdated, because I have no time to keep it up to date.

The other skins are offline skins. You can only use them in offline play and view them in the AH skin viewer.
These skins are uploaded by the skinners themselves. So, if you can't find an online skin there, the skinner hasn't upload it.

Maybe I'm not understanding something.....
therorically speaking if I took an "offline skin" and put it in my skins folder it wouldn't show up on my screen if I went online?

Is this correct? How does the game know if I'm using an Online or offline skin?

I'm just curious how other people would see your plane if you were using offline skin online (if this is possible)

Like I said in my other sim, If you use a paintjob that other players havent uploaded to thier system they view your car as a generic solid colored car.

Wondering what the effect would be in AH

AH only recognizes *.RES files for skins online. look in your skins folder, those are what AH supports online. they are created by the HTC staff, from the *.BMP's the skin makers send them.

the skin makes have to eb able to look at their skins while working, so HTC set it up that you can create a folder, put the *.BMP's in, and use the skin offline to test it. that's all the function is basically a "tester". now that the skin viewer is available ther almost is no reason to have custom self made skins offline, unless you just fly offline alone anyway
I don't know what to put here yet.

JB73..
Thank you....Now it makes sense.
Just needed the whole story..
So to sum it up when testing its not in the .res format.
When HTC approves the skin...HTC changes it to a .res correct?

yes.

then the .res is sent out to all subscribers when they are online, or DL the official skins pack (if it is up to date)

it is to stop people from doing odd things, like say an invisible skin, so only the cockpit is showing or masking the tips of the wings to make a spit look like a clipped wing spit.

thos kind of things are possibly to do offline, but impossible to do with the setup HTC has online
I don't know what to put here yet.
