Wealthy Africans, bad drivers, lost relatives...
« on: May 26, 2005, 04:18:04 AM »
This past couple of months, I've come to realise that I have many, many long lost relatives in Africa, except that most of them have recently died in tragic accidents. I've been getting dozens of emails fitting the same template:

"Dear Sir, seasons greetings, we believe you're the relative of our client blah blah blah who was attempting to leave the country with his family and was driving along the . Unfortunately there was an accident, and all occupants of the car lost their lives. This leaves us with a dilemma because the transaction was incomplete and we want to place the money in your account, you'll get 50% for your trouble etc. The amount in question is US$ We hope that you'll be suckered into responding to this. Very cordial regards, may Cod bless and keep you etc."

LOL - doesn't say much for African road safety, or for the driving skills of the wealthy. If these emails are to be believed the African highways are littered with wreckage caused by multi millionaires.

My last name is that of a prestigious hotel chain (no relation to me) so I wondered if for some reason I was being singled out, or are you guys also being tracked down by African relatives you didn't know about?

I have few times won the grand prize in an african lottery, however for some reason they want a small payament before hand, as if I don't have enough money to give from the prize money.
How come I never win the grand prize in finnish lottery with all this good luck

Apparently I am also a good friend of a royal nigerian family, who sometimes asks me to either deliver some cash or diamonds for them.
However due to this and that reason, I'd have to always pay a little sum, before being able to receive my part of the money.

Not in Africa but in South America.

I was getting those notices for a while too.
I just forwarded them to the FBI and for some reason I stopped getting them.
Guess someone there had the same relitives as me from down there and decided to keep the money for themself:D

Maybe it's because there are just so damn many insects in Africa that they figured you were related to several of them..........
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

I haven't gotten a good Nigerian scam email in awhile :(

However! Occasionally we do get a phone call, wanting tens of thousands of dollars in Toyota parts... and the call is always handled by an AT&T operator talking to the other party in a text chat conversation. We just hang up.

iirc, I read that a significant portion of Nigeria's GDP comes from those scams.
