Need some info on P4 and RDRAM
« on: May 26, 2005, 11:30:47 AM »
I just bought another system for my son and it uses RDRAM. Right now the system has a grand total of 128MB RDRAM and its built around a P4 1.4GHz processor. I paid $150 for the whole system and need to find some RDRAM for it. I want to bump it up as high as possible. Its a Dell 8100 system. From what I have been able to tell the machine runs great and has WinXP on it. It was covered up in spyware and virus' until I reformatted it but it loads slow as maple syrup in winter due to the amount of RAM it has.

Any suggestions?

RDRAM must be installed in pairs.  It's also extremely expensive.  Two 64 MB modules (only 128 MB extra) from Kingston are currently $97+.  I shudder to think how much 256 MB or 512 MB would cost now.  It's also really hard to find in stock...

Try to find some used.  You are looking for PC800 RDRAM, and remember you need 2 matching sticks.

Thanks bud I thought I remembered it needing to be in pairs but wasn't sure. I have found some Samsung 256MB sticks at Newegg for 89.99 a stick. I don't think thats to unreasonable for 512MB RDRAM.

I have two 256mb sticks of Samsung RDRAM in my 8100.  I am just now retiring it and have no use for it as a gaming box anymore.

email me with a fair price and they're yours good sir.

As long as you've got continuity cards I can throw in...I don't know where the heck mine are.
