I would also agree Furious that the report load would be worse than annoying if the system only gave automatic reports every 3 minutes.  Not much point in a report about bogeys at 20 miles when you are engaging half a dozen at a thousand yards.

So, a possible solution would be to have both an automatic report mode, and a manual report request mode where there are no reports until the pilot clicks a key to request one.  Maximum reporting in auto is a report every three minutes or so. Currently you have to pull up the clipboard to see the DAR, which is similar to a manual request. Or you can leave the clipboard up all the time, which would be like automatic report mode.

The system could also be configured not to continue to report contacts that get within visual range, 3-4 miles?, or that you acknowledge with a click.

Again, I wouldn't envision this system replacing DAR in the MA.

TheCage, I also thought of this as well, and it might be a solution if you can find someone who wants to be in charge of the radar shack during a scenario. Maybe this could be a third option in addition to automatic reports, and manual requests. And again, wouldn't work so well for the MA.

During the first AH BoB scenario, we (allies) were fed radar information and directed for intercepts by "sector station" sort of things.   These stations were all manned by brits which gave the entire scenario a very authentic feel.

I disagree, it would work in the MA as well.    Many complain about the hordes, and when a base is under attack by a horde, the first sign of incoming retaliatory strike on dar, causes a large part of the horde to up and leave.    If they don't know it's coming it would make surprise a beautiful thing.    Just think of the great furball it would cause.    But in one way you are right, someone from the squad would have to be on the ground, but this could be accomplished by switching squad members out on each sortie.   Without in flight radar, the playing field would be even, and the people with the best SA skills would be the most likely people that survive combat.   Imagen a horde of planes on their way to a target, intercepted by a smaller force who by coming out of the sun took the larger force by complete surprise.   That would not be possible with in flight radar.
