Why is it that the libs always feel a lot of compasion towards the perp, but never towards the victims and their families.

Remember the Menendez brothers? They blew away both their parents with a shotgun at close range, and their defense attorney was asking for leniency in sentencing because.... "they are orphans". How sick is that?

All I got to say put yourself in his shoes. Just because the news says what he does. That makes it true? Sometimes the news lies. 35 years sheesh the mans life is basicly gone. Hes old, cant harm anybody. Just let him die a normall deft. Did that lady he ruffed up die? He got free, so what no big deal. Let the man be, and live on with your life.

I refuse to. He is a vicious criminal and I'm not. Why should I put myself in his shoes? His fate has not happened to him, he has earned what he got. I feel no compasion whatsoever.

You say he can't harm anyone? On what are you basing this statement? Remember Larry Singleton? 20 or so years ago he kidnapped a young girl, raped her, hacked off her both arms with an axe and left her in a desert to die. She survived, he was put in prison. Do not remember what his sentence was, but eventually they let him go. He was in his sixties and "presented no danger anymore". Guess what, he moved to FLorida and within a year he raped and killed a couple of women.

"Let the man be" you say. Are you willing to personally take a responsibility fro all his potential future crimes?

YEAH but all this guy did was STEAL a TV and supposly hit a women. All the people you compair him with are serail killers, and rapist. This guy has not done anything close to that. Most he would get for what he did now is 3 years, and probally wouldnt serve all the time if he had good behavior. He got 35 years for stealing a TV and hitting a lady. Hes out now, you can do a darn thing about it. So why start a thread and cry and complain. Your an adult I would think? You act like a kid that i see sometimes at my school. I really think this thead should be closed, the O' club should be name the Bitc*ing club.....

Pleaze. They should have just ran a Russian prison Makarov SA/DA jury. Pow, done.

As for the woman who owned the television set, she was in her 80s at the time of the crime and passed away in 1977. Several of her relatives contacted us about this story and said Allen has paid for his crime. They insist the reason he got such a harsh sentence was because he fought with the victim -- a crime for which Allen was never charged.

I've told you and everybody else that I think he had served his time for what he did. But I think it's a mean person that would assault an 85, 86 year-old-lady," said Sandra Thornton, Johnson's granddaughter.

(much less get out of jail before his sentence is up) Keep in mind he had a record of violent crime before this, and while he was in prison was written up over 50 times, many of those times involving violence.

You need to think about context. This isn't about simply stealing a $140 TV. Judges are allowed sentencing discretion within minimum and maximum. There IS such a thing in this world as "bad people", and that's why we have maximum sentences and hard time.

The state said Allen's behavior is one of the reasons he is still incarcerated. In 33 years, he has committed 62 infractions -- about average for a maximum security inmate. All but eight are considered moderate by the Department of Correction.

"Disobeying an order, gambling. If you're asking me whether I think this shows that he's dangerous to the public, the answer's clearly no," attorney Rich Rosen said.

No one here (with the possible exception of a few idiots) is complaining because he's out AFTER 35 years. The deal is, some are complaining that he GOT 35 years.

Since we KNOW he broke into a house (you don't have to damage anything, you merely have to BREAK the plane of the perimeter of the house, like breaking the plane of the goal line for a touchdown), and we KNOW at one time he was charged with assaulting an 87 YEAR OLD WOMAN, we know 35 years was a reasonable sentence. If he's attacked an 87 year old woman, who knows what other atrocities he'd have committed had he been released at the age of 33, on "good behavior". Don't know much about CRIMINALS, do you? ALL he did was break into a house, steal something, and likely assault an elderly woman? If he broke into YOUR grandmother's house, stole her television, and beat the crap out of her, what exactly would you propose we do with him? Would a slap on the wrist and 3 years in the local "recreational vacation facility for the criminal element" be enough?

By the way,  it's COMPARE, SERIAL, PROBABLY, and SUPPOSEDLY.
Perhaps you should pay more attention in school.

Oh, I get it. A penalty for an assault on your Mom and theft of your monitor is death, but if this is someone else's granma, you propose... "Let the man be, and live on with your life"?

Curiouser and curiouser :)

No im saying. Why whine about his relase? He served his time, so why make all the fuss? Hes not going back to jail for that crime he commited. I never said what he did was right or wrong, I will leave that up to you. I just dont see what this thread
will do. Its not going to make him go back in jail. To me it seems as a 100% whine thread. He did the crime, he did the time. Now let him be....

After 35 years, TV thief released
Raleigh News & Observer

RALEIGH, N.C. - Junior Allen, who spent 35 years in North Carolina prisons for stealing a $140 television, walked out of prison Friday a free man.

Allen, 65, will live with relatives in Georgia.

He was paroled on his 26th try after getting a life sentence in 1970 for second-degree burglary. Georgia authorities will supervise Allen's parole, which could last up to five years.

If Allen follows all laws, keeps a job and reports periodically to his parole officer there, he'll gain complete freedom by age 70.

Under an old law, the late Judge Pou Bailey sentenced Allen to life in prison for sneaking into an unlocked house and stealing a 19-inch black-and-white Motorola TV. Allen, a migrant farm worker, was 30.

The harshest punishment the offense could draw now is about three years in prison

Southern Justice at its finest.  Would be interesting to see what a white person was sentenced to in comparison.  I'm willing to bet that a white man 35 years ago in North Carolina didn't receive a sentence like that for burglary.
