The issue is considering total weight limit vs car-only weight limit. With a total weight limit, driver+car+fuel must weigh a MINIMUM weight. If you go over that, it's your choice. With car only, the weight of the driver becomes an issue. 100lbs does make a hell of a difference with a 1500 lb car... especially at the outer edge of the torque curve.

This has nothing to do with catering to the heaviest driver.

Stating that Patrick has an unfair advantage is ridiculous. There's nothing "unfair" about it.

"I won't race against her until the IRL does something to take that advantage away.'' sounds like the whine of the century. Apparently, all the cars will have to be fitted with weights in order to equalize the numbers, according to Gordon's logic. Whiner.

Let's talk about the presumed disadvantage Danica has at being a 5'1" tall and 100 lb woman. O wait, looks like Patrick showed today that she isn't disadvantaged at all. And, she's never whined about anything of the sort, either.

My dad was sitting there practically jerking off praising her.  I counted 3 major mistakes today even before her bonehead spin under yellow and lotto winner recovery.  And don't forget the bobble in quals.  These weren't mistakes like "I got off line and lost a little time" but mistakes that have killed better drivers than her.  You can get away with that stuff for one year but in the long run the speedway will bite you in the bellybutton when you **** up like she did.  Very lucky little girl.  She should hang up the helmet and  commence babymaking.  That bellybutton is too fine to end up smeared along a concrete wall.

But the important thing is that the Beam car won.  And the Red Bull car ran 2nd in the F1 race for a while.  A great day for some of my favorite cocktail ingredients.  **** diet soda.

And the weight thing is pathetic.  I could have $500k worth of liposuction and go on the Ghandi diet and there would still be zero chance of stuffing me into one of those little things without some kind of skeletal reduction.  Certain physiques are good for certain sports.  Deal with it.  Out.

The guy made a very good point.

If you guys who disagree do not think so wait unit the race fills up with little korean and chinese drivers who weigh in 50 to 100 lbs less than the average American driver.

The formula to make a race car go faster is easy. More horsepower. Less drag, less wight.

Not weighing the driver is a very glaring loophole.

Open wheel racing has been dominated by small people since forever.  You ever meet any of these guys?  They average about 5'8".  Tallest ones I can think of are Gurney, Berger, Webber, all around 6'0".

Every year we have a pool on who will DNF first.  Entries usually go like this:
People named Foyt
asian drivers
female drivers
NASCAR guys
Pretty much covers the first DNF of every 500 over the last 15 years.  
They had two women in the field one year.  You can guess what happened.
