Thin Red Line was OK, but I found it a little pretentious - it also didn't need to be 3 hours long. But the characters are acted well and believable.

The best recent war film was Schindler's List. Those three hours sure went quickly, and it's the one and only film I've watched where people (men and women) were openly crying, as they stayed in the theatre right until the end of the credits.

Apocalypse Now is probably the best war film ever made. If you liked that, read 'Heart of Darkness' which it is based on (although it's about 19th century Afrika rather than 20th century Vietnam).

Has anyone heard of the 'Director's cut' of Apocalypse Now, that's supposed to coming out? It adds some pretty crucial scenes which were cut from the original release, like when the PBY visits a group of French people holding out at a plantation.

Rip, check out "Frequency", pretty good movie with quite a few paradox twists.

You got to be kidding.  Apocalypse Now sucked....nothing but Hollywood bullcrap.  The best Viet Nam War movie would be Hamburger Hill with "Purple Hearts" being a fast second.  Ya had to be there to know for sure.

Gladiator was a good movie.

The perfect Storm was worth renting also.

The best movie of all time was "Space Balls". Worth renting. Also try "1941", it's good too.

Yup, 1941 is a top movie!

I really enjoyed 'Gladiator' and would definitely recommend it.

The Patriot - as a keen follower on 18/19 Century history I won't bother watching this because of the poor historical reviews I've read.  BTW, 'kicking our butts back across the sea' is a fairly amusing comment since they were British and colonials that kicked 'our butt' over - thought American's called themselves American's after the revolution?  We couldn't have been that bad... our language is still used   . Anyway, an ancestor of mine was a colonial that stayed there during that period... then eventually moved back.

Kelly's Heroes - now this is the MUST for everyone!  Oddball sure reminds me of a few people in AH!  

X-Men - it was okay, a little disappointing in places.  Famke Jansen sure made up for it though!  

2001: A Space Oddysey - love it or hate it... I sure love it!

Life Of Brian - fantastic!

Kelly's Heroes is a sure fire classic - I've just ordered it from Canada on DVD for brother's Xmas present. I got some software that lets my DVD player play region 1 DVD's.

the first time i saw this movie it stuck with me for hours afterword - it puts you in a mood that is hard to shake - the conrad book, on the other hand, is number 2 on my all-time boring list right behind my vcr manual

Boring = sitting through 4 hours of a uni Hamlet production, all the while trying to look interested, amused and appreciative.

Shakespeare can be done well (I haven't seen a bad production of The Tempest yet), but Hamlet always sucks to me.

Ah, I forgot about Delicatessen!  The City of Lost Children is another excellent film!    Also, anyone ever seen Dark Star?  Kinda low budget but funny!
