That's because we have the best spit V and worst spit X possible.

AH2 Spitfire Speed Test:

*100% fuel, no fuel burn
* deck speed tested at 100ft (+/-10ft)

1. AH1 Spitfire F.MKVc
* 304mph @ 100ft
* 375mph @ 18,000ft

2. AH2 Spitfire F.Mk.Vc
* 316mph @ 100ft
* 370mph @18,000ft

3. Spitfire fMk.IXe
* 320mph @ 100ft
* 412mph @ 26,000ft

Observations:

* According to HTC charts, the AH1 SpitV does about 375 mph at 18,000ft. While the AH2 SpitV is woppin' 12mph faster than the AH1 SpitV on deck, it is surprisingly, 5 mph slower than the AH1 SpitV at 18,000ft.

* Does this mean the critical alt of the engine changed on the AH2 SpitV? At which alt does the SpitV using 16+ boost achieve highest speed? Anyone know?

 Anyhow, if the AH2 Spit9 didn't change at all, then at deck, the Spit5 is only 4 mph slower than the Spit9.

how does that compare with 190a series in AH ?

IRL even spit5 VD ( clipped wing) had no hope catching a 190a2 in climb, speed, accelleration, dive etc et. only in turns did spit do better.

Thanks for the link Flyboy. A steady speed range of 360~370mph is maintained between 13,000ft and 20,000ft.

 Seems the AH2 SpitV with 16+ is almost spot on with the test reports you've linked.

 Then, what I don't understand is, how come the AH1 SpitV using only +12 boost engine is so much faster??

 save, our AH2 Fw190A-5 would be outpaced by a SpitV(+16) in climbing contest.

 In terms of speed, however, our Fw190A-5 is still faster than the SpitV by 14mph at deck and 30mph at alt.

 Our Spit9 is slower than the A-5 at deck, but faster than the A-5 at alt.

Thats what I got for the V on the deck, 316-317, and 320 for the IX. I know the IX is much better at altitude, but since I usually fly a Spit (any Spit) at about 500ft AGL I see no reason at all to take the IX, low alt the V eats its lunch.

You must have been diving to the deck and then letting the speed settle.

If you accelerate level on the deck it will top out at about 290/309 (N/W)

I tested the Spit9, but didn't totally record the speeds. It's a bit faster, but only 10mph tops.

The problem is the SpitV holds E 3 times as long. Taking both planes to full speed barely off the sea water, I hit E (shut eng off) and waited to see how long it took before I could lower flaps and before I touched down. Hands off the throttle, the spitV, going SLOWER than the spit9, glided 3 times as long and really wouldn't touch down at all. Spit 9 fell like a brick, slowed down like a 190A (compared to spitV), and in an airplane that was supposed to dive better than the spitV (more aerodynamic?) it was so inferior it's just not funny.

FIX THE SPITV!!!!

now, its a joke

does anyone know if AH has even conceded that the spitV is off?

It's not "off"... it's "different". They made a decision (in many peoples' opinions a bad decision) to model one of the more rare, late war, variants, that was around when the spit9 and spit14 were around, so it basically has the latest end-of-war engine in it, and is in no way representative of a real spitV.

But it's "accurate"... for a rare, late-war bird.

EDIT: By that I mean the engine power is "accurate".. the E retention is BS.

It stalls at 48mph repeatedly in a high nose up attitude while retaining steady aim. THEN, after stalling in 1.5 seconds it is nose down at 180mph (I have seen this so many freaking times in the film viewer, it LITERALLY jumps from 48mph to 180mph nearly instantly, allowing a plane that stalled out totally to then RE-zoom and LOOP and BARREL ROLL without hesitation, when it should be floundering at stall speeds.

THAT needs fixing. Too damn "game-y" for me.
