Quite obvious to me it was on purpose.

If you have to ask about skydivers then you just wouldn't understand.

I don't understand how so many people in this world don't realize that planes come with wheels on them, and that you can actually stay in the plane and make it back to earth.

Either it was a setup, seems like he was still very high up when he shot the flare, or he aims like the LAPD.

It was a stunt. The canopy was dipped into gasoline and set on fire on purpose.

Btw the guy was jumping with a 3-canopies rig: he still had another main and a reserve (or 2 reserves, I'm not sure).

Spit and Capt Apathy, do it once. You need to have at least 1 more plane take-off than landings to be able to answer your question ;)

Diablo how is your brother doing? I realized that he is quite popular in the community, even in Ol' Yurop!

That's from the Fox stuntman reality gameshow they did. You can see the fox logo on the main chute right before the flare lights it up.

People who skydive should instead donate their organs *before* they ruin them.

LOL Frenchy this is the well known in the BASE community, and rarely for good reasons, Miles D. in his works.
According to experienced BASE jumpers, this stunt was absolutely ill-planned and the lower guy can thank the trees for catching his deploying canopy.

Miles D. is sponsored by Red Bull....proof that energy drinks are not harmless to your brain cells...

Hehe, which one?  Chris retired from the Army back in March of 03 after 3 tours of Afghanistan and 28 years of service.  Ted and Tim are still doing Omniskore! but they are both retired from skydiving due to health issues.  Ted has decided to become a sailplane pilot whereas Tim (not Ted, hehe inside joke) is an accomplished RC builder and flyer.

Oh, and john9001, show a skydiver a "perfectly good" airplane and they won't jump from it!

I'll definitely try skydiving at least once (tandem or SL) but it just doen't seem like my kind of sport. Every jump only lasts a few minutes, and when I fly I like it to last for a while. Right now I get enough of a trill from flying airplanes.
Working on the PPL, i definitely don't have enough money to get my A license anyway.

oh and skydiving doesn't seem that dangerous, until the law of average catches up with you. either that or you start getting more and more daring, modding your gear-like that French guy, Patrick de Guyardon who met his demise in Hawaii.
