Adaware should find it... make sure you check for updates
Check your add/remove programs for it also.

look at run/msconfig and see if its in your startup.

When it pops up bring up your task manager and see what the name of the program is and you can do a search for it and delete it

Check your registry RUN Keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run

Remove any suspicious entrys in here. After you delete it do a refresh on that key (hit F5) if it comes back then that's a bad one. A lot of spywar programs monitor these keys and put themselves back in if you try and delete it.

Go to the Microsoft download site and download Microsofts Antispyware program.   It will get rid of the problem plus it will fix Internet Explorer so the popup will not function.   I use the program, works really well.   It will let you know if any program messes with IE and will restore it back to normal again.

There is another type of popup in Windows XP which is intended for the network to send notes and alerts to the users. This is being usurped by outside parties to send advertisements. It should be disabled. Go to the START menu and select PROGRAMS, ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS, and then SERVICES. In the services window you will find a service called MESSENGER which you can disable by left clicking to select it, then right click on it and choose properties, and then select disable under STARTUP TYPE on the GENERAL tab window.

The Ms Messenger service is not related to the Internet Explorer browser and can function without a browser running. It also has nothing to do with an Instant Message type application. I believe newer releases of Windows XP default to this service being disabled.

I read something the other day about ransomware.  It acts as a spyware program but it locks up certain files and is impossible to delete.  The program asks you for money to clean up your computer.  If this is what you have you are screwed and have to do a scratch and reinstall.  the program comes form porn and pirate sites.

Ask me for help if you want.:)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I recommend you or anyone else who has a problem with hijackers go here http://help.lockergnome.com/ .Register. You will then be able to post. By post I mean post a HIJACKTHIS log. After you register click on  "PROBLEM SOLVERS" forums. Then click on "HIJACKTHIS LOGS". Post your problem in the HIJACKTHIS FORUM. An expert will get to you within a few days to guide you to a clean machine :)

You may submit your HijackThis log files to any of the below Forums for
expert analysis. I personally like http://help.lockergnome.com/  Because that is where I was trained to read Hijack logs.
