How in the hell do I get rid of the Legacy Audio Drivers? I don't know how they got on my system in the first place, but apparently they are causing my game to lock up. In the system devices there is no uninstall function, or any way listed to disable them, and I can't get into my BIOS to change anything either, some kind of BIOS protection rabble. I tried downloading and installing some kind of Legacy removal application but it didn't do anything either.

IIRC (i may eb wrong) "legacy" drivers in a win XP machine are default drivers for some older hardware, and are being used because the proper new driver is not installed (or the manufacturer stopped making drivers for the devise)

IIRC (again i may be wrong) there are some "legacy" devises used in playback of multimedia from OLD programs / sources. like real old midi files, not upgraded to newer standards.

i think some really old games (designed for win 95) use these legacy drivers to run the multimedia instead of the new drivers and hardware. it actually becomes a software thing, emulating older hardware.

i could be wrong on all this, or mixed up the details, it has been a while... the biggest thing i remember is the emulation of older hardware.

I've done everything I know to do, Legacy Audio drivers aren't even mentioned in my BIOS, and there is no utility on my system to remove them, I'm getting ready to have some kind of Caniption.

i really don't think they are harming your performance in AH, unless you only have a 7 year old sound card

Well the locking up, according to Skuzzy, is being caused by multiple Audio Drivers, so I got into my system devices and had realtek (which I disabled), my usual audigy 2 drivers, and the legacy audio and video capture devices. I am pretty ignorant when it comes to tech issues, but I can't find any way to uninstall or disable them. I tried reinstalling my audigy driver files in the hopes of removing the legacy drivers that way but no luck. There has to be someway to get rid of them without a complete restore. I even tried a system restore that took my computer back to the days of Noah, but they stayed on there somehow.

win XP?

try right click my computer, manage, click on devise manager, expand sound video and gaming, choose the devise, right click and disable.

it may be mentioned, i have no problems, and have legacy audio and video.

if you had realtek onboard, did you un-install drivers also, after disabling it?

if not, double click the realtek, goto the drivers page, and choose uninstall

Does your motherboard have jumper settings for your onboard sound? might try to disable it there if it does. some do, some dont. If you can get into the bios, the setting for it is under intergrated periperals usually. If you are unable to access your bios (I hit delete on mine to bring up bios during boot-up or f5 i think) you may try to clear your cmos then it may allow you in. you will have to set cmos all back up too.

legacy drivers are a mother board thing, you usually install them through bios settings or Im pretty sure your motherboard setup cd rom has them on it and they get installed when you put drivers on the mothaboard if you want them.
