From GAMEZNET

Cornered Rat Studios confirmed today that they have scaled down their staff somewhat recently. Here's a text bite...

Yes the player base is still growing. Paying subcriptions passed 10,000 a while back and continue to increase. We have marketing and sales activities to get more boxes on more shelves and promotions for the holiday season. The business facts are that we have to scale to fit the customer base, and we feel we have a strong team to move forward with more optimizations and stabilty improvements, new features and better gameplay. The sky is not falling. There may be some time lost for people to shift gears into new roles in a couple of places, but we feel the long term effect will be an improvement of our ability to reach our goals. Putting out an employee list would simply not be proper nor appropriate.

Interesting, 10000 paying subscribers? When it went to market I remember the shelf sales being something like 30000 in the first few weaks.

That means 66% of people have either opted not to continue after the "beta" period or returned the product completely.

The price of Freedom is the willingness to do sudden battle, anywhere, any time and with utter recklessness...

...at home, or abroad.

Translation:

"We fired a few of our staff, paying subscriptions are increasing...the one month subscriptions at least, 'cause they aint staying any longer, and we would like to assure you that we will continue to give you the great support and the same level of quality programming that has earned us a niche in the industry. The bottom feeding niche."

I've met most of them in person at their offices and at various Cons, knew a few of them from fighting/flying with/BBS in WarBirds from 5 years ago, and did some Con partying with some of them too.  Regardless of what happened with their project they are good, bright, talented people and I'm sad they lost their jobs.  I wish them all the best.
