Interesting little topic. From a 38 driver.

I'd be interested in how many captured allied aircraft the Germans were able to put into the air. I got good hits on a P-47 with kraut markings during a head-on pass. My flight and I shot down a B-24 with kraut markings near Mulhouse, a city near the French, German, Swiss border. The A-2 (intelligence) debriefer made note, but no credit for a "kill" was made.

How many Swiss Bf-109s were shot down by Allied fighters? We were mixing it up one day over Lake Konstanz with some 109s when the group lead called out, "Don't shoot any of these guys, they're Swiss. Pale blue 109s with red crosses rather than the black of the Luftwaffe. We occasionally strayed over the Swiss border, and though they were noncombatants, they were in the air to protect their sovereignty.

As far as I know, the only captured aircraft to succeed in
shooting down an Allied aircraft was a P-38 flown by the
Italians. I'm sure Guppy or Ack-Ack can fill in the details.

They pretty much had everything the Allies had, not much of a surprise, lot of planes fell down over German territory. Certainly spits, mustangs, bolts, 17s, 24s etc. Alfred Price has such list for KG 200, plus iirc there were other 'flying circuses' with flying balkenkreuz b17s to train the pilots how to attack them.

Now that the swiss were mentioned, I recall there was some interesting collosion between Germany and the Swiss, Goering ordered some demonstration flights with Heinkel 111s escorted by Bf 110s - they were intercepted successfully by Swiss Bf 109 Emils - some of the destroyers were even shot down. `Schmitts fired on `schmitts, horrible.

F4U-1A Captured by German

Corsair JT404 of 1841 squadron. Involved in anti-submarine patrol from HMS Formidable enroute to Scapa after Operation Mascot against the German Battleship Tirpitz, in company with Barracuda of Wing Leader Lt Cdr RS Baker-Falkner. Emergency landing in a field at Sorvag, Hameroy, near Bodo, Norway on 18 July 1944. The pilot Lt Mattholie taken POW and the aircraft captured intact with no damage. The german authorities made attempts to get the pilot to explain how to fold the wings so as to transport the aircraft to Narvik. Aircraft was ferried by boat for further investigation. It is not known if the Corsair was taken to Germany. This was probably the first Corsair captured by the Germans. Aircraft is listed at Rechlin for 1944 under repair.
