My boys' PS2 is on it's last leg, and I was going to get them a new PS2 to replace it.....

But before I do that, I thought I'd get feedback on which is the better console platform today, as well as which has more titles available as well.

I'd skip xbox and replace the PS2

I have one, but never had a PS2. I guess Halo and Doom are good on the xbox, but if I had made a choise today I would go for the new (thin) PS2 even if the specs on the xbox is better.

If you can wait tho then maybe the xbox360 will be seriously good when it commes some time this fall (atleast before xmas)

Xbox is better than PS2 as far as graphics go, but PS2 have more games for it, and is more compact.

I'm waiting for the PS3 to come out... a bit of a wait but worth it imo! (PS3 reported much faster/better graphics than Xbox 360)

I was gonna wait for the PS3 myself, but i have heard now that you cant use it to record from tv so I think ill skip both xbox 360 and PS3 and just get a DVD recorder with harddrive when my current DVD recorder accidentaly falls of some place.

I wish I had time for playing games, but this forum takes up most of my free time.

Maybe in a few years time when they start throwing both consoles at you for nothing.

Odd. I read the exact opposite. Xbox 360 is supposed to have a 3x faster processor, 2x faster memory, and marginally faster video processor. On top of that, Sony historically under-delivers on promised performance.

Also, Xbox Live!, while being a pay service, has much better performance than PS2 online gaming. People will argue it, but I have both.

I think a lot comes down to opinion/preference. Personnally I prefer the PS2 b/c I like the more wider game selection.

I just recently bought myself a SNES. Had a drunken evening with a couple of mates a couple of days ago playing street fighter II turbo, super bomberman and super mario kart.

The SNES rocks!:)

It would appear so now. Before E3 everyone was saying that the PS3 was 3 times faster than the Xbox 360. Now Microsoft are saying that the Xbox 360 is 3 times faster than the PS3 (which isn't out yet, obviously). I'll have to look at post E3 evaluations and determine whose telling porkie pies!

I caught the post-E3 wrap-ups & reviews on G4TV

However, the movies from the PS3 game demos... if game graphics are anything close to the movies... sell your PC, you won't need it anymore. They blew away Doom 3, Half-Life 2, and everybody else.

No Xbox 360 movies though

I dug out my SNES and played mario world the other week, I forgot how fun the game was until I beat it the next day.

Game selection......Playstation can't be beat but if you want speed and great graphics then hit the Xbox.

I have one (Xbox) and all I play on it are sports games. The same games load so slow on a PS2 its ridiculous compared to my Xbox plus the graphics are better in those games. I broke down and let son get the Lego Star Wars game for the Xbox and he loves it.

If you can hold out get the Xbox 360. I know I will be getting one shortly after they are released.

Im a xbox fan. Even after paying a large amount of money for it and Halo at Media Play and then a month later it dropped a hundred bucks and got a free game. Xbox has better graphics and I believe that Halo #1 is the nexted best first person shooter (multiplayer wise) next to 007: Golden Eye. Xbox also has a huge amount of memory space on it that allows tons of saving. Smaller game sellection tho.

Supposedly, from what I heard on G4TV at E3 the xbox 360 is supposed to beable to run your in co-operation with your home pc.
