hello??
« on: June 04, 2005, 01:42:59 PM »
hello, anyone alive in here?

and another friday comes and goes without any change to the now dead ct

is there a way the arena can be opened up to others who would at least make a weekly change?

I was thinking a webpage that would list the planeset/map possible combos which would be voted on throughout the week which the would run a script which would auto load the winnner every thurs night at midnight - hint HT hint

it blows now, leaving nothing but the mayhem arena which has always blow chunks as far as any kind of close a2a fighting...

One of the staffers (not me) had a very interesting setup all ready to post on Friday.  At the last minute it turned out that his posting abilities had not been enabled by HTC.  Fork (and later I) came in to load the setup this afternoon, but for reasons not known to us the CT has been closed.

There is a schedule of which staffer is supposed to post the setup in any given week.  Lately we've had some difficulties with people being unexpectedly diverted to real life problems.

Skuzzy will have to answer this.  It might also help to have a few more staffers.  I appreciate you volunteering like this, and I hope others do, too.

I know rl comes first and know i sound like a whiner or is that a wiener )
but I think it doesn't help but push the room further into its spiral

I miss the ah1 ct days - ma just doesn't do it for me as I can't get into the capture the flag mentality you need in there. ma with less than 100, early morning eta is the only time i can find any decent a2a
Hopefully TOD will be a large enough change to that it has the missing spark for me

I really think an automated script based on a week of voting could spark ct as it would give those who voted, the majority, what they want for a week in a timely fashion as compared to what is happening know

on another note, I know nothing about setting up and running a room but if you think I am not too dumb to learn, I will be glad to help out ... eagler_at_pogbird+dot_com

Although I feel AH is definitely the best massive-multiplayer online combat flight sim.  I can't help but suggest to players that are strongly appreciative of what the CT had to offer in the past, that they might try exploring other venues.  And I don't mean just a cursory glance.  Imagine the same people just coming in and automatically equating the MA with AH.  I know I was able to find a new "spark".

No disrepect intended, I think AH is a great game and a great sim.  But I'm just not a MA guy, but I know many are and if that's your thing I couldn't do anything but highly recommend AH.  But I'm a CT guy and going on the gamble that many of us are attracted to the CT for similar reasons, I offer my suggestion.

I loved what the CT was, I wish it could be again.  But I have my doubts, and I can't say I'm happy about them.

I agree with Bug. I have always been a CT guy. I hate the thought of CT going  away.

It seems though that only negative thoughts , or ideas are important anymore. People would rather fight on the BBS , than in the arena. Some of the crap we're arguing over is just  ignorant. It's gotten so bad that  Tuesdays and Thursdays are even dead.

I'm kicking around the idea of flying in the MA. I keep trying to find a reason to get jazzed over it, but the whole 3 country, chess piece pride, flying anything you want , arena is just hard to get interested in.

I know it's the popular place , and the money maker for HT. I just happen to be one of those dinosuars that wants to fight axis and allied.  Don't know what needs to happen to get people back in here. Even if the regular crowd came back I have doubts if it would last long before everybody was fighting , pissing and moaning against each other again on this BBS.

If something  doesnt happen soon I'm going to look for other alternatives to get my WWII aviaiton fix. Now this is no threat , HT aint going to miss my $14.95 a month. Nobody flys in CT , and I'm not known in the MA , so I understand nobody really gives a watermelon if I stay or go.

I think it's a damn shame though HT gave the players an arena to do our own setups with, and we abused it to the point where it's a ghost town.

I mean no intrusion, and no disrespect. I think Shifty is partially right by saying that we (and by this I admit I don't have an account, but I liked the CT when I did have one long ago) made it a ghost town.

And then I thought... "How many times have I seen people posting 'What's the setup this week?' and 'Who's running this week?'".

One of the problems, no not problems, but "bumps in the road" is that nobody knows who/if/what/when will be run the next week.

Suggestion:

Just have a senior admin write up a proposal for the entire month. State "From the 1st to the 7th, we have FinRus, late planeset. From the 8th to the 14th we have Mindnao, early war zekes/hurris/40bs. From the 15th to the 21st we have Slot, mid-war planes f6f/f4f4/zeke/ki61. From the 22nd to the 28th we have Rhein with 1943 planeset, RAF running sweeps and bombers into Germany, trying to retake French land".

And then, when the time comes if the server is not set, any admin, every admin, has the ability to set it, not just the one who is "it" this particular week. They can just check the schedule, see what was put forth prior, and set it up. Even if it's not accurate it's in the spirit of things until the admin that is "it" can get in and tweak every last detail.

I mean, by this, that perhaps things be casually laid out in advance (and also so you don't have the same setup too soon, as some have complained in the past), and that once it's public knowledge any CT admin can set it up, not just the "it" admin of the week.

Perhaps that would alleviate many of the complaints and keep the proverbial road of the CT smooth and bump-free?

Any idea why it's still closed? Did it just crash or is this the end?

I hate to say it but if it's gone for good so is my account :(

Pretty sure that it's some sort of glitch.  Apparently it crashed right in the middle of the attempt to change the setup.  Inasmuch as it happened on a Saturday afternoon, I doubt that it was a deliberate HTC act.

Lute I've flown in the CT for several periods over the years. If you'd like to know the specifics, PM or e-mail. Suffice it to say once some bills are paid off and I can afford a sub I'll be planning on making CT my home. While I do not fly in it now I keep an eye on the forums to stay up to date.

I would like it if whoever does the CT setup would stop trying new things. Find the setups that people like and put them there for two weeks at a time.

We sort of do that, unintentionally, now.

After several years of having the CT, there aren't a lot of fundamentally new things to try.  The recent Fightertown experience was perhaps the biggest experiment in awhile.

Because of the scheduling glitches mentioned in the "hello" thread, setups for the past couple of months have tended to run for two weeks.  We find this causes significant discontent.  People like more frequent switches.
