Air Force testing new uniforms

we've had this discussion numerous times at work

there's too much light colors in the uniform and not enough dark, it doesn't BLEND with ANYTHING.  Personally I work on a flightline.  I have no need to be camoflauged but then again for deployment to the desert we will still use the DCUs.  This is the dumbest move the USAF can possibly make.

Side note:  We wear cammo on the flight line yet wear a reflective belt at night so people can see us.....WHAT"S THE POINT OF WEARING CAMMO THAN?

well the actually cut of the uniforms is pretty much more comfortable than any others (other than my Navy coveralls but we can only wear those underway)

1. When you deploy to the desert which uniform do you take?

A: Basic training issued BDUs
B: Readiness section issued DCUs
C: Both A and B
D: How the hell am I suppose to know I'm only talking out my arse

2. Where do the majority of all USAF personell work (deployed and at home station)?

A: Flightline
B: Inside a building somewhere
C: Randomly all over the base
D: How the hell am I suppose to know I'm only talking out my arse

Your uniform is based on your enviroment. If your ignorant enough to think that you'll be taking a blue/grey uniform to the desert you might have your eyes checked. You also don't have just one uniform to choose from. There are special uniforms for every enviroment and for every special AFSC. The average USAF member won't have 5 uniforms to choose from. There is absolutely no need for that. The security forces and special forces units will use whatever uniform is called for depending on the enviroment that plan to work in. They should be the only units that actually need specialized uniforms.

it has been my position that fligthline maintainers need to go back to the "old school" coverals.  Throw some stripes and name tapes on it and you have a MAINTAINERS uniform.

There is absolutly no ryme or reason why at home station I need to be camoflauged what so ever.

hell the irony now.  We work in the desert yet wear BDUs.

Is this one of those magic eye pictures where you can only see the people in a 3D image, and you have to focus a foot beyond the screen?

For a dessert with grasses that would do well.. But some of the footage i've seen in iraq, that ain't gonna do for that sand.

You need red/orange and white.

if you see it up close it has a lot of white and blue in it.  In any environment it stands out big time.

Would be nice if all the eventual accessories match the main outfits.  Olive drab stuff hung on desert camo makes quite a distinct target.

yea I was actually thinking about that today.  Not to mention I don't beleive GORTEX (makers of fine military cold/wet weather gear) has even started making matching field jackets for the Marine's uniforms.  They started getting theirs 3 years ago.

There are hundreds, if not thousands of USAF troops on the ground in Iraq that work nowhere near the flightline.  They're out past the wire making sweeps with the Army folks.  In addition, the USAF is big on the security force "augmentee" concept where any troop from any career field can be called on to work with the security forces troops for a period of time, following some additional training.  So just because someone is a finance troop doesn't guarantee that they'll not be walking the streets, sands, or mountains in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Some guys from Lakenheath got to set up Iraq's air traffic control centers, and they were under fire a few times.  I'm not sure what they'd think about wearing blue when everyone else is wearing desert tan but I doubt they would have liked sticking out like that.

I already deploy with 3 uniforms, because the USAF recently banned civilian clothing for off-duty wear while deployed.  I don't need/want another garrison uniform.  If all they want to do is make a garrison uniform, make my normal blues uniform more comfy, or come up with a non-camo patterned garrison utility that isn't blue.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

Yes, there is less blue, but it's still there.  Show me a blue tree or sand dune, and I'll change my mind.  If we were the skydiving force of death and all of our enemies died before we touched the ground, then I'd change my mind.  It shows a particularly stupid brand of stubbornness to continue to propose a blue combat uniform, when the extremely vast majority of those who would have to wear that uniform in the field object to the color blue in a field utility uniform.

I'd rather have bright international orange jumpsuits, because that would at least help cut down on friendly fire incidents.  No red-blooded American shoots at international orange, but everyone is going to shoot at the USAF combat smurf team.

They need to get rid of the blue.  All of it.  Sheesh, I feel like I'm talking to some 5 yr old brat.  No, put down the doggie doo.  No, put it ALL down.  Don't put it in your mouth.  No, I mean it.  Put the doggie doo down on the ground, not in your mouth.  Put it down NOW or you'll get a spanking.

Whoever keeps putting the blue in the uniform design needs a fierce spanking, and not the good kind either.  With a leather belt.  With a leather belt that has metal studs.  So they learn that "no g*ddamned blue field uniforms" means exactly that - no freaking blue at all in the uniform.  Not even on the little tag that says how to wash it.  Not even in the little velcro tabs that hold the pockets closed.  Not even anywhere, so quit putting blue in there.  Just stop.  Now.

Hmmm I should cut-paste this and send it to the AF times.  When everyone tells me not to do something, I freaking stop doing it.  What's so damned tough about making a field uniform that doesn't have any blue in it?  What anti-social managerial genius is so stuck on a damned blue uniform?

actually eaglr, there is blue everywhere.

the sky is blue and the sky is reflected in the environment.  all over the place.

take a look outside your window on any sunny day.

its there.  lots of it.

blue is also an atmosheric color.  when things recede in the distance, the atmosphere tints and fades them in what color?  blue.

you are standing behind a tree and your assailant happens to be looking at you with some sky showing through the branches.

yes my friend, it is a very blue world.

(oh.  and water is blue and reflects blue on things too)

You'd think the people that possess stealth technology would do a slightly better camo job.
