Has there ever been any talk about adding mirrors to any of the planes? Mirrors would be really handy when flying  a F4U, F6F, or any of the razor backs. :aok

?

I did a search for "rear+view+mirror+plane". Every thread is basically the same, so here's a nice summary from a few years ago....

Muahahahahahahaha! The "Mirror Topic!" Escape while you cannnnnn!

Here. I'll save you guys some time, so you won't have to read the rest of the thread...

Poster Boy 1 (usually a US type): Real planes had mirrors. Are we gonna get em?

Poster Boy 2 (usually a LW type): They sucked in real life. They vibrated. They were too small. By the time you saw him in the mirror it was too late.

Poster Boy 3 (usually a trainer): Too much frame rate hit. Never work with this graphics model.

Poster Boy 4 (usually Jedi) : Um...they had em in Air Warrior TEN years ago, and they worked OK. Guess we lost the "knowledge of the ancients" somewhere along the way, eh? Just make em optional--choose between a six view and a mirror view.

Poster Boy 5 (usually a rookie): My grandpa flew P-47Cs in WW2 and he said his mirrors saved his life about four times.

Poster Boys 2 & 3 (in harmony): Anecdotal evidence! Anecdotal evidence! No fair!

Next 27 Posts: Rehash of Poster Boys 1 thru 5 arguments.

Bottom line: they COULD do em. They COULD be made to work fairly, and not give "unrealistic" SA advantage or "unacceptable" frame rate hit. But, with the current VERY forgiving rear views available in the sim with customization (except, naturally, the F4U, as USUAL), why would you need a mirror?

OK, you can skip the rest of the posts and go to the next topic  OK, hardheads, see if I didn't warn ya...

--jedi

and...

Jedi.. you missed the post where Poster Boy 1 replies to Poster Boy 2 by saying that LW aircraft vibrated more than US iron (particularly a certain Navy aircraft), therefore rear view mirrors should be useless on LW aircraft but should be lifesavers on US planes.      -jekyll

No really, rear view mirrors have a hit on performance.

We've got zillion people complaining AH2 is harsh on frame rates. If mirrors were an option, three quarters of AH population would be flying around with them turned off.

Just like three quarters of the IL2/FB/AEP/PF population fly around with mirrors turned off, despite the options they have.

OK fine, give the option of having them on or off.

No sweat.

Just wait in line, right behind all the other smaller suggestions to the game which are currently waiting its turn to be evaluated, since its categorized as 'low priority'.

I'm sure HT will consider it in a year or two.

Then how about a rear-view for the Ar-234 to fire it's guns?
