"the electric companyyyyyyyyy"
« on: November 27, 2001, 02:46:00 PM »
man, i just got digital cable and there's a channel showing reruns of "the electric company"!

i hadn't seen that show in 25 years or so and now realize why people in my generation are so tripped out.

they had some kids on a psychadelic oscillating background jamming on tambourines and singing about the letter S or something - it was great.

everyone had afros it's a hoot - what really struck me was how they didn't pad things so much or patronize the audience like kids shows today do. the people were real looking and genuine and looked like they actually enjoyed doing the show.

it was in a dirty urban setting, they sang blues songs, etc. it was pretty refreshing and kinda funny to watch as an adult.

got the theme stuck in my head now - it was funky!

   :D

change the channel .. quick  :)

Yep, it'll only get better as technology trudges along. As compression matures, they be able to throw just about everything ever filmed at you as they will have the bandwidth to provide it. Have you caught the Game Show channel yet? Some great old game shows on it.
Our digital system here in the Tampa Bay Division is one of the best in the nation. Real time Video On Demand (VOD) is fantastic, with rewind/FF/pause capibilities. AOL/TW are really pushing it, throwing money at it hand over fist as they realize that it is the future of home entertainment. Coming from the old school, I still find it amazing they can fit 10 to 12 digital channels in the 6Mhz that it took one analog channel to fly. The technology involved in a fiber to feeder digital system is mind boggling compared to the old 550Mhz analog plant.
Once they get the contracts from the studios for the VOD subs which gives them the movies before your movie rental shops do, VOD will really take off. Right now the customer base does not warrant such as fued as the Block Busters have greater numbers.

hehe I always liked the Electric Company better than Sesame Street.  Except for Grover, the Count and the dude that always sang NINE FUDGE PIEEEEEEE'S just before he fell down the stairs.  The Electric company had more "cool" stuff though like blackula er.. Morgan Freeman and better cartoons.

Remember ZOOM?   :)

Oh yeah, they Nun or what ever she is on OZ was on the Electric Company too.
