CH Peddles Install
« on: June 13, 2005, 02:44:52 PM »
Just got new CH USB Peddels. Had to because I don't want to use the twisty on my X52. Do I plug in the peddles then run the install, or wait to plug in when asked by the setup? Also, will the CH USB HID drivers step on the Saitek USB HID drivers?

just plug them in and then go into the X52 setup and disable the twisty rudder and then in AH choose ch peds as rudder control in jstick setup

I needed to read that again. I thought so but, I'd rather be foolish here than blow the setup in the game. By the way how do I map the brakes to the toes on the peddles? Or is the game setup to default it with CH peddles?

not sure about the toe brakes as I do not use them but i think they are seen as axis inside ah and you assign them to toe brakes under the jstick set like you would a rotor to trim but I could be wrong about that

on another note, when I used the x52 (while Saitek  replaced my X45) I had the twisty stick setup as aileron trim (banded and programmed under Saitek profile setup) - seemed to work pretty well

I just plugged in the pedals and the toe brakes worked....kinda touchy though.

Hasn't been a pain enough for me to poke around in the settings. If the plane starts to nose over I just get off of them.

When you calibrate the toe brakes put a cd case under the heels of the brakes, makes them much easier to work with. BTW got this tip here on the boards, though can't remember who from

SNO could you clarify?  Are you saying to put a CD case flat under the toe brakes when calibrating? How does that help?

what he is refering to is basically a manual toe brake dead band. While calibrating your toe brakes in windows I put a bit (about 3/4") of toe brakes on both brakes and not letting that part be measured by the cal. This keeps the very first edge of the calibration as null. That way when you are on the ground any small input wont be felt you will need a bit more deflection for anything to happen.

I am assuming the cd case will set a measured distance of deadband. I never thought of that, but the way I do it works fine for me.

Or just make a biggish dead band in the Control manager Softeware for the rudder pedal x and y axes. Thats what I did. Stops you screwing up takoffs by inadvertantly pressing differential brakes ( which most WWII fighters didn't have, but thats besides the point)

Last night I used the CH peddles for the first time. The differential brakes are a nice way to taxi and make fine direction adjustments on takeoff. Once the tail is up, the rudder is great. Much better control than with the x45 rudder rocker.

I just plugged the peddles and XP picked it up. It shows the device as having an X, Y, and Z axis. In AH you have to remember to set the rudder to the peddles Z axis and the left and right brakes to the x and y axis. My x52 uses the Z axis for the analog throttle. I had to map all 4 engine throttles to the Z axis(throttle) of the x52. Other wise the rudder peddles replaced the x52 throttle and activated the rudder.

Ya that is correct manual deadband, I don't use the control manager or the software from CH so FOgold's way doesn't work for me but that would be the way to go also if you use the control manager.

I installed the control manager for CH last night. It corrected a problem with the rudder in AH stick selection setup traveling from 745 to 65335. It  now travels fro 0 - 65335 and has a more positive control feeling.
