Peripheral Vision + Immersion

The default view of the game is just too flat; the cockpits lack the feeling of  depth and with zero peripheral vision, most of the time I feel like I'm watching something on a screen rather that 'in' a cockpit or 'in' the enviorment.

Wings Over Vietnam adds a slight bit of peripheral Vision, a more natural look,  so as youre going along you can see what you're passing, it offers more of a feeling that you're floating  through the air with other aircraft.

Picked up LOMAC last week.
Well what can I say - absolutley fuggin awesome. Smooth scrolling cockpits, amazing graphics.

Immersion - Feel like I'm drowning in it sometimes lol.

Actually, if you think about it, peripheral vision is already modelled in the game.


 You see, since we are limited to these small,  X inch by Y inch area of monitor space, the default plane cockpit we see in the game is typically set at a "panoramic, wide-view" position.

 In reality, if you use the zoom keys and max-zoom at a target in AH2, that's usually the actual size of the real gunsights in real cockpits. But ofcourse, if we fly around in that zoomed-up view, we don't have any peripheral vision at all.

 So, inorder to expand the visibility, the default cockpit we have is shrinked up. The 'border areas' of the monitors are where the 'peripheral vision' would be, except it's not blurred up.


 The problem is, "blurring up" those border areas are neither much suitable for gameplay nor realistic. It may "look" realistic, but actually our default game screen is much more realistic.

I can't tell what this would look like from the descriptions, and I'm not going to go out and buy Wings Over Vietnam just to find out, but if this would make flying in formation feel more intuitive, I'm all for it.

Not quite true there K.

In AH the field of view is 90 degrees when zoomed out. In RL the human eye can see what, about 130 degrees?

the problem with enlarging this field is that everything has to be made smaller. That is why the gauges are hard to read in IL2/FB/AEP/PF, although the sensation of speed is more evident.
