Heh, :rofl

Yes I suppose it could be read that way :)

What I meant was:

If we had this stuff turned on (200 VOX) it would be a waste of bandwidth and server power.  Both of which, given past server performance, it would seem that we are in short supply (power and bandwidth).

So...

Even if I could turn it off for myself, the packets would be sent to others and therefore, a waste of bandwidth.

And anyways, I was just mumbling to myself.  I didn't think anyone actually read my posts :)

I vote a BIG no.

The effect would probably be just the opposite. As always I vote for Range Squelch / Perma Squelch / etc...

how is range vox a community asset? or how is it a "key element" to the community?

It only shows how gay people can be when they piss and moan about troops being porked, kills being taken away from them, bases not being captured right, 6's not being cleared.

God I hate Range Vox.

Its a key element to being ghey.

I think range vox is useful but I'd like to see it where the squad vox/ tuned radio channels overides the range vox not range vox overiding everything else.

Well, HT, Rude and I discussed it with him shortly after it appeared. I don't really remember the details of the discussion but I do remember he liked keeping it on all the time while Rude and I were asking for a squelch option.

I remember him talking about the "community" angle too.

But, I'm old, it was a while ago and he might have changed his mind.

Maybe he'll comment.

Wow..some of you still aint gettin it!  The range channel would be a selection from the radio boxes. Just like when you type a ch number into the V box and you can talk to your squad...there could be a range box, and a switch for on or off. If its on you have it just like it is now....only hearing those guys who are in your immediate area. NOT THE WHOLE COUNTRY. If its off...its pure bliss...and the only voice you hear is from a squaddie or a "check 6" from someone.

I will admit there are a few folks I enjoy talking to on range and would not want them squelched with everybody else. That's why I've always liked the "Permasquelch" idea.

You could then type the cussing, whining, prepubesent morons cpid in ONCE and that'd be that. Then you would no longer have to see their drivel on text and more importantly hear them on vox. It would be a really nice "feature".

A simple command like .psquelch numbnuts would suffice. That way when you see those you like on range you could say hey without having to listen to the others.

Not to be difficult, but what would be the point of range ch then?  I only flew a couple hours last night.  Other than me saying hi to someone and them saying hi back, I heard nothing but situation reports, tactical info, and attack coordination the entire time I was on.

I only use the chk6 key when the recipiant has a goofy name that would be dead by the time I figure out how to get their attention on vox.   What use is a local channel if you have no idea whether people will recieve transmissions or not?

95% of what I hear on range is exactly what range should be used for.  The other 5% is chit-chat, an annoying kid announcing his every action, and the occational whine about not chk6ing.  The 5% for whatever reason doesnt compell me to go whine about changing it so that its practically useless for everyone else.  What good is it if the person your trying to give information to cant hear you?

i am sorry, but i whole heartedly agree with Murdr.

i have the same experience also, i can not remember the last time i heard anything other than direct gameplay stuff on range. now granted i do not fly much in the giant "mass gangs" that attack a base. i am usually on the fringe if i am near it at all.

squad vox on the other hand LOL it's a cuss storm. but thats squad ; )

i think this sums it up pretty well:

So do you just sit and listen to it for hours ad nauseam or squelch them?

Would it not be nice to squelch them once then never have to hear it again?

73 and Murder,

Thats excelent!  If we had the option to turn it off, you could excersise your option of keeping it on.  Why do you not want me to have the option to turn it off?  Its not about profanity only.  Most of the times I just want some quiet.  Really don;t care about what the two drunks on range did last night.

To be honest, I doubt Ive used squelch more than twice in the last six months.  I dont ever recall needing to squelch the same person repeatedly, ever.  Mabey Im just not easily annoyed.  I have nothing aginst a persistant squelch list though.

Let me put it this way dedalos.  If I repeatedly find Im talking to myself I would stop trying to communicate on range.  Most of the time I key it, it is to help someone out or coordinate with them.  Why should I bother?  On the other hand if you want a temporary mute button, or a volume slider that doesnt completely tune everyone else out, I dont see how that would have the same effect.

Maybe you fly at 20-25k where there's only a few people in range. Down in the trees, near a base defending, near a CV... it's rediculous.
