Author Topic: Save me from my own stupidity (Read 289 times)

Ok. Here's the situation. I took out my motherboard today to replace it with another (better) one. Unfortunately that board was DOA so I put my original back in. Now it refuses to find my AGP Radeon 9200 in any way shape or form and I'm stuck using the 32MB built in crap. I tried disabling the built in VGA from the BIOS but there is no option to. I tried uninstalling it but that didn't work. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Radeon drivers but it still won't even find the card. Same thing with pulling the card and putting it back in. Also, it reads my system as having 480MB of RAM instead of 512MB. Any suggestions? My system specs are in my sig line.

P.S. To end this on a truely ironic note - my original MB can hold the speed of processor I originally bought the DOA board for. Turns out someone sent me the wrong link to information about my board. They have since been delt with.

darn no manual for it online... I was gonna go lookity see ..

ok the ram amount diff maybe improperly seated ram stick (ive done that befor)

as for disabling the onboard that should be in the bios (or on a jumper), you had it disabled befor i presume . so your just missing it i guess .

Look in your BIOS and see if there is a setting that tells the computer which video to use as default.

Thing is I didn't install it before so I don't know how they did it.

Easy enough. Your system shows 480MB of RAM because the onboard video SHARES the system memory. Its set for 32MB. Add 480 and 32. 512MB.

Go into your BIOS and go to the PCI/Plug N Play setup page. Find the setting that says Primary Graphics Adapter. Selecting AGP allows you to use the onboard or the 4x AGP slot. You can also set the amount of memory the onboard uses, etc. Allocate IRQ to PCI VGA should say NO. Save and exit.

Make sure the video card is fully seated in the AGP slot if its not reading. AGP cards can be tricky that way. It may LOOK seated, but if you see even the slightest amount of metal on the card contacts where it slides into the slot, try wiggling it.
