North Africa 1944 a “What If” scenario

The time is early 1944 and the German Afrika Korps has beaten the British after a careless mistake by General Montgomery brought the British 8th Army to a standstill and ultimately defeat outside of Tripoli. For all of 1943 the Afrika Korps fought a delaying action while moving back east into Egypt and controlling the Suez Canal. The front has split Libya almost right down the middle. Both sides are dug in and seeing what the other will do. Time is not on the Allies side.

As such the war has entered a new phase in North Africa. Germany is consolidating their hold in Egypt and building supplies for a possible restart of offensive operations against the US, Britain and Free French forces. Germany has also linked forces along the southern front in Russia and forced the Russians to pull back to Stalingrad. In the process they defeated the remaining British troops in the Middle East. Finally Stalin is screaming for the US and Britain to resume operations in North Africa or he will negotiate for a separate peace with Germany.

The setup:

Map: Tunisia
Allied Planes: P-51B, P-47D-25, Hurricane IId, B-26
Axis Planes: Bf-109G2, Fw-190F-8, C-205, Ju-88
Support Aircraft: C-47
Ground Vehicles: PzIV, T-34 (representing Sherman), M8, M-16, M3

Radar: 500 feet minimum Bar/Sector 30 miles
Night on/off: OFF
Base Capture Yes/No: Yes to capture is 30 troops
Fuel Burn: 1.5
Killshooter: Off
Visibility: Max
Down Time on buildings: 10 Minutes
Icon Range: Short range
Friendly Collisions: Off but will monitor them and adjust as needed.

Special thanks to everyone who contributed in the other thread. The setup is now running in the CT and its open for play. If you notice a problem with the setup please post your findings in this thread.

Hey Reschke!

Just curious as to why no FW-190A8 or A5?

FW-190 vs P47D is IMHO the best fight in the game!

All the best,

Crumpp

Cool,

I still think the 205 is out of place.  Perhaps the 109F if you must have 3 per side?

Mainly I wanted to see matchups that rarely get done in here. The F-8 is a cross over ride that can carry ordinance and fight other planes. The G2 in my opinion outclasses the 51B in some respects but needs to flown with care and understanding.

The 205 is here simply because people know its a good balanced fighter and while it has a low ammo load and short legs I like it.

I had a few nice fights tonight in there with a new guy...Davideo. When I left there were 5 guys joining the arena just a few minutes ago. Hopefully we can pull some new folks into the arena.

kudos for trying something creative.  without a full planeset it's difficult to be entirely "historical."

trying new limited setups with underused planes that did (or could have) conceivably met in the skies is a nice offering of variety if only to see interesting matchups that don't normally occur.
Surrounded by suck and underwhelmed with mediocrity.
I'm always right, it just takes some poepl longer to come to that realization than others.
I'm not perfect, but I am closer to it than you are.

Thanks Shane. Hopefully it works out nicely. If so then I may run a different variation again in the future.

Can you turn off the smoke? I got on a guys 6 tonight and he hit his smoke. While he still died its annoying to have red and blue smoke in your face when you are 400 off.

Thanks

It's working out great.  Decent numbers last night, excellent fights.  New squad's operations focused the fight on a vehicle field, worked out just as it should.

Rgr that I will see if someone can pop in there today and get it turned off. I can't do it from work but maybe someone else can. Thanks for the heads up.
