mmm let's see if you can work this one out for yourself....don't think of it as a test or anything....

Bigotry
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
(Redirected from Bigot)
A bigot is a prejudiced person who is intolerant of any opinions differing from their own.

Bigot is often used as pejorative term against a person who is obstinately devoted to their prejudices even when these prejudices are challenged, often engaging these prejudices in a rude and intolerant manner. Forms of bigotry may have a related ideology, like racism, religion, and nationalism.

Bigotry is not "intolerance," but "unreasonable intolerance". For example, some Jews may be intolerant of Nazi Anti-Semitism; that doesn't necessarily make them anti-Nazi bigots.

A bigot will continue to hold these opinions even when confronted with evidence that challenges such stereotypes. To protect his views, he may either dismiss the challenges he encounters as an aberration to the norm and ignore the fact that they threaten to undercut his prejudices. On a more extreme level, he may deny the evidence altogether. Both reactions can be classified as forms of cognitive dissonance.

The redneck stereotype:

Today, a redneck is a stereotypical southern United States socially conservative, rural, working class white person with northern European ancestry. The stereotypical redneck is a male, has a beer belly, consumes cheap American beer such as Budweiser or Miller by the case (Pabst Blue Ribbon in more traditional settings) as well as Jack Daniel's, and holds deeply conservative political views. Stereotypically they are homophobic, racist and distrustful of "city slickers". The stereotypical redneck also lives in a trailer, drives a large pickup truck with a Confederate Navy Jack flag decal and a gun rack in the rear window, has a stained sleeveless t-shirt, a trucker hat or baseball cap with long sideburns. Their favorite activities include hunting, professional wrestling, NASCAR, monster truck rallies, and car engine repair. Country and Southern Rock bands such as Lynyrd Skynyrd and other classic rock groups from the 1970s are their preferred genre of music.

I might add that they generally get their panties in a twist because when they tried to bully the French they got a rather Gallic shrug and were told to get stuffed - apprently the whole surrender at a drop of a hat doesn't occur when dealing with America.

Am sure Saurdaukar will assist with an explanation....if he stops pouting that is - though one has to wonder about ANYONE who names himself after the Imperial Storm troopers in a sci fi novel - very, very adolescent or perhaps just confused about growing up.

This from a person who's chosen a nom de plume to represent himself to the community as one taking malicious satisfaction in the misfortunes of others.

It's one of the reasons I love this place. :)
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

Schaden, I want to protest your post on Rednecks.  As they say, That dog just wont hunt.

First of all, my ancestors were Irish, not Yourupeens.  Second, have you seen the prices on Bud these days??  It sure aint cheap my friend!  And I aint seen a man drink Pabst since my friend Rodney when we were in high school (he spent the night throwing up too) nearly 20 years ago.  Third, no decent redneck drinks Jack Daniels, its too dang expensive and its too sweet.  I much prefer Jim Beam for good whiskey (Bourbon), but something cheaper is much more inline for trailer dwellin folks.  Third, I aint never been afraid of livin in a home.  So dont  you go callin me "homophobic".  Trailers aint the only places I ever lived.  I do admit to bein racist tho, I love NASCAR and Indy cars.  Tho why they ever named a type of racecar after that Harrison Ford character from the movie is beyond me.  Oh, and my shirt aint stained.  Well, not that bad.  And these aint sideburns, its part of my beard dangit.

So you see, just aint much about your post thats right.  I want an apology.

mmm Suave and SoA......a fairly convincing rebuttal, I will concede that there might be a small chance that you are not rednecks of the old school (standards are slipping everywhere these days!)

Now now Saurdaukar, no need to get all hot and bothered, am sure there are some people out there who are impressed with your choice of name (one has to ask was SS STORMTROOPER already taken?) and don't think you're a total prat - am sure they will come forward and tell you what fine fellow you are and how jolly impressed they are that you took your name from a Frank Herbet novel.

It's some time since a read Dune - but didn't the Emperor's Saurdaukar get their arses kicked by the Fremen Fedaykin, the desert dwellers who waged holy war under the banner of M'uadib to protect their desert lands and the riches it held that were coveted by the evil Empire?

Interesting allegory for our times don't you think?

(Translation of the phrase "Total Prat" can be found here http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=total+prat&btnG=Search&meta=)
