I dunno, I've always considered Wal-Mart to be a bit wacky... but that's proabably just me. :)

I was heard one of our vendors today talking about how Sam's Club is kissing their employee's arse. Seems they are trying to avoid a lawsuit over management practices.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Stay thirsty my friends.

Well no... I bought my first Mossberg at a Walmarts 25 years ago. Still have it and I buy my Hunting/Fiching Lic there also.  WWII Airplane models are slim pickins at the most...But I can never give up the craze of grabbin a Friesbie when no one looks and sail it off destination unknown...heehee it's the kid in me.  So if someday you're in a  WalMart and a Friebee sails past yer head...IT WASN'T ME!!!!

Love,

Was recently disgusted at having to buy myself and my sons fishing licence at Wallmart.

We had this great little mom & pop owned hunting & bait shop that I'd gone to since I was a little kid.
the kinda place where you could hang out for an hour and swap stories with people that knew you by your first name and you knew theirs.
Unfortunately they couldnt compete with Wallmart and they had to close shop after being there for almost 50 years.

Now I was forced to deal with some guy from god knows where after standing in line for almost a half hour while he only let people one by one fill out the forms.(there were like 10 people in line all waiting for the same thing)

When he finally got to us he wasnt going to issue my son one cause he didnt have any ID other then his School ID.

Im like "he's only 16 what kind of ID you think a 16 year old is gonna carry? and Im his father. how much more can he be ID'ed??"

He said "Im sorry I cant do it without more ID"
I said "No, your an idiot, 16 year olds dont have much more in the way of IDs"

So he gets all upset over my telling him hes an idiot and calls the manager who comes over and after hearing what it was about basically also called him and idiot and told him to issue the licence"

Wouldnt have been so obad but the guy was acting like a real hardarse like some fo those security guard jokers you see who think their something and guarding some sort of national treasure

I miss that little store and Im getting increasingly dsgusted with all these mega stores with their generic non personalities.

Im reaching the point where I'd rather spend more and get things from a mom & pop shop then have to deal with these mega stores.

"They really don't have anything etched in stone," said Morgan, who lives in Plant City, Fla. "The person that works in the photography section of Wal-Mart could take a break, someone from the underwear department could take their place, and they could decide to print the picture."

I agree with chair..

There is nothing inconsistent in what Wal mart is doing in this case..  the guns comparison is beyon ludicruous.. that is like saying that if you buy oil there and are killed in a car wreck it's there fault...

More appropriate is if they made guns there and you asked em to make a copy of a Colt anaconda say..  or... If they copied peoples movie home videos and you snuck in a copy of Star wars say.

As for "mom and pop" stores.. they are not really the next best thiongs to living sainthood..  they charge way over a fair price for anything they have and they generally are surly and "take it or leave it" if they are the only store around... they allso allmost allways treat their employees worse than the big chains do.

but... shop where you want..  the tax base for all stores benifiets the city you are buying in.

True there are some stores like that. and if I dont like the way they do buisness I dont shop there.

Yea often I pay more at a M&P store but I also tend to get better service and dont have to wait in as long lines. And to me that alone justifies the price.

One of the places I get material from has higher prices then some of the chains and even higher then some of the other M&P joints.
But I havetn found the kind of service they are willing to provide at any of the others. They will practically do backflips for their customers. If I need stuff at a specific time they make sure its ready at a specific time. If I need something delivered last minute. they do their damnest to do so.

Another example is a paint store I do buisness with. Even they will admit they are more expencive then the other stores in the area. But you cant beat their service (same as above).
and they treat everyone that way. Not just contractors.

Yet I've gone into several Sherwin Williams stores needing a gallon of paint matched and they have consistantly on almost every occasion asked me me  to "come back tomorrow" to pick it up. Which never sits well with me. and a debate usually ensues with them loosing and me eventually getting what I want when I want it.

With the M&P shops I tend to get more personal treatment and a more "at home" atmosphere.

With he big chains I get generic treatment, usually from someone Who couldnt care less about what I need or how soon I need it.
And the lines are often insane, usualy not being helped by the cashier thats moving at the rate of about a half mile a year.

My time is worth more then that and I can easily do without the added aggrivation level the mega stores provide

Plus I find I simply dont like the attitude of big corperations. Even the good ones tend to forget where they came from and get to be too big for their britches. Usually made even worse once the bean counters gain some power and start selling enferiour products and often what some would consider seconds.

I learned the hard way never to buy ANYTHING mechanical from Wallmart.
It wont last. Yet you can buy the same item at any smaller store and it lasts 10 times as long. Least thats been my experiance

I shop where I want according to my whim and my time allowed and a lot of other things.   I sometimes buy at the local hardware store and other times at Lowes... I buy things at Wall mart often.

Mobil one synthetic motor oil is a buck or two a quart less at Wall mart than Napa and comes in 5 quart jugs.   I buy it at wall mart.

Wall mart moving in made all the mom and pop stores around here act more like what you are talking about...

Where once they were overpriced and surly... they are now polite and reasonable.

To the ones saying "just do it yourself at home", I don't know if it's the case at Walmart, but just printing the pics on decent paper is quite different from actually getting them printed in real photographic quality paper, which is what "digital printing" services are doing.

It involves 30K$ printers loaded with funny smelling chemicals, and the result is not different from that of a traditional developing proccess.

I had read about it, and also about some stores that made cakes with edible images printed on the topping refusing to make them anymore, afraid of copyright violations (even as short lived as copies being eaten within hours).

I also read recently about a school forbidding video recordings of some little kids' dance performance, because the tune they were dancing to was copyrighted.

Someone has to stop this lunacy, and I hope it involves IP lawyers and some extremely painful violence. :D

Ironically this happened to my Girlfriend the other day.

A nice Photo taken of my Grandfather before he passed away, They told her they would need a copyright to print that particular photo at 8.5x11, although they printed the same photo at a smaller size with no problems
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

You guys talking about the lunacy of copyright violations scaring vendors. How about the king of them. How many of you hear the old birthday song being sung at a commercial location? From what I was told some hemorhoid copyrighted the tune and now can demand royalties from any commercial venture that uses it. Don't know if it is actually true but it sure explains why the tune was dropped.
