I can hear things most of the time, and talking requires both hands but you get the ol'time radio crackle sound really good.

Yeah, I don't have anything against the company, looking around my speakers ( I LOVE ) and mouse are logitech.

I did not install any of their software.

It just baffles me how a known working mic will not work in AH.

a mic is a mic right?

just to be sure, I tried it again.........still nothing.

oh well, maybe a hidden conflict somewhere

I've had excellent results from Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick and Logitech keyboard.

Actually, microphones can be tricky.  After my hard drive crashed, I've gotten everything restored except ... my microphone.  Dunno what brand it is since the brand decal was eventually obliterated by the lapel clip (so, whatever company, stick the decal on the other side, huh?).

I have two mikes and can't get either to work, so I know it's the connection instead of the mikes.  My 5.1 surround sound system works great.  I'm determined not to take a sledgehammer to the whole setup and remain embarrassed that of all the tough problems solved, the apparently simple stupid blankety blank mike is always the last thing to get to work.

Then i did a system restore and it worked fine.about once every 3 weeks i had too do that.

Imagine this though, i stop playin for a month and i have no probs at all with the mic and all i,m using is the 20$ Radio Shack mic.

I now use a high-end Labtec set after a couple of Plantronics sets, both of which did not impress me with the quality of the microphone. I believe that you will find Labtec to be among the better mic/headsets available for a reasonable price. I picked up an Altec Lansing set for my wife's machine so she can chit-chat with her Euro friends via Skype. She seems satisfied with it.

I've switched from being a solid logitech user to labtec.

Quality is much better IMO.
Wife & I are both running labtec optical scroll mice that are coming up on 3 years old.

Labtec headset has so far lasted twice as long as the cheaper plantronics & logicrap ones.

Plus I've heard tons of horror stories about POS Logitech joysticks that last 2 days, 3 days, a week then die.

I had an Andrea set that finally gave up the ghost after 5 years and I replaced them with a logitech which I absolutely hated and returned. I then spent a few bucks more on a good plantronics set which works great but is extremely sensative. I have had to turn my mic gain almost all the way down in windows and cant be anywhere near a fan or it will pick up the distortion from the wind blowing over the mic. My work headset (cost over $200.00) is also a plantronics and I would be lost without it.

I was just wondering....

Do you have the mike switch on the headset turned on?  It is on the side of the audio volume control.  The little plastic bump on the wire about 8" from the headset.

Headset picture

Neither is marked very well.

I've been a huge fan of Logitech's company and how they deal with customers and stand by their products since the late 80s. I used to use only their branded mice. I have not bought a mouse/keyboard/speakers/joysticks/headset from them lately but it has nothing to do with their quality, more of my taste in ergonomics.
