I think the Jug was the first working example of "We've got this big-assed engine, let's build an airplane to fit it.":D

Yea, the jug had a bigger engine than the 38 let alone most bombers.  However the 38 still was faster than the p47.  Yet the 38 still had more range than the p47.  But dont forget what I said before, my favorite plane is the p47 personally but in AH the 38 is because the 38 has more options.

I think Hoarach is saying that with all the Spits, Nikis, La7s and what nots around,  a P38 is more surviveable and enjoyable.  I agree on the former and slightly on the latter.  With the P38s climb and cannons you can take down adversaries pretty quickly if you fly it right.  In the Jug you need to plan what you're going to do long before you merge and you need atleast a second of firing to take down an enemy.

In the MA, you often don't get that long to plan or fire.  The La7 that chased you down and you were about to kill is now joined by a Hispano wielding Spitfire who chops your tail off right as you ping the La7.  Hard knock life ;).

Not saying this doesn't happen in the P38, or any plane for that matter, it's just that usually the La7 is already going down and you can evade the Spitfire in time to take him down as well.

In the last 7 days, the score is Nomde's Jug = 4, akak's pee38 = 0. Keep working with that 2 engine pile of bovine fermentation wannabe akak, I'm sure you'll graduate to the superior handling of the Jug someday. :D
