Interesting Google Map Locations
« on: June 21, 2005, 11:36:05 AM »
Anyone interested in posting interesting locations that can be viewed by the satellite photos posted on Google maps?… I had no idea this was available till I saw a link to this posted here earlier.

I know the photos are at least a couple of years old…  But some are a real hoot to look at.

Here is my first.

It’s the Air Force aircraft scrap yard in Tucson Arizona.
Lots to look at, Tons of old planes awaiting their fate. and you can drag the picture with your mouse, and just keep looking.

I was amazed at how many different aircraft I could recognize.
My password at work had to contain exactly 8 characters… I chose Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

I belive i found HTC HQ when this map thingy was introduced awhile back, but i wasnt sure if i found the right building.

Would be nice if any of you dared to reveal your adress or maybe even post the sattelite pics of your homes. For now I think it only has US cities, but if i find some of my place ill show it. I did find some photos taken from the air of my house a few months ago.. ill see if i can refind them.

there was a thing on TV about that place, not all planes there are to be scraped, they have 4 classes of storage.

1. planes in short term storage that can be returned to service in 60-90 days.

2. planes in long term storage, that could be returned to service.

3. planes being used for spare parts.

4. planes (hulks) that are to be cut up for scrap.

Just for giggles I looked at Carswell JRB in Ft.Worth. It was the home of mucho nukes and B-52's before they moved them to Barksdale. It's also one of the longest and heaviest runways in the US. I expected it to be blacked out, but was surprised to see some very good detail. The only aircraft visable were some C-130's and a couple F-16's.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Stay thirsty my friends.

Me

It's super easy to find while I'm flying, the hexagonal spaceships/elementary school nextdoor really help.
