"There, I was a 20-year-old flying helicopters and having a grand time."

"I'm not even sure I want to talk about some of the things we did then," Browning says.

Drifter,

Those folks are in the Guard. They operate under different rules in the Guard and mandatory retirement is a much different age than the Active or Reserves.

A special to those men going back in harms way.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

We have a guy in our squad who was a door gunner in helicopters in Vietnam. He is now a radio operator on a
combat C-130 (it is NOT an AC-130 Spectre gunship) and
has at least 18 months to go before retirement. If the U.S.
has been there since Vietnam, he was there.

Another excellent book is Low Level Hell which is about flying with the Aeroscout Platoon in OH6's.

Fascinating to think some of the Vietnam vets are still flying. Although if you think about it many WW2 vets were still flying during the Vietnam war.
